On Friday, smoke moving into the eastern Sierra and western Nevada from fires in the Sequoia and Kings Canyon area caused the haze across Carson City and the region; however, the forecast today shows moderate to good air quality for the entire region as winds clear the valleys.

However, Critical Fire Conditions remain, which could be exacerbated by the high winds. According to the National Weather Service, 35-45 mph winds are predicted from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. today.

The Duck Race is back this year with a new twist: a family-friendly festival to provide the community with a fun, free way to support the Nevada Humane Society while also getting to meet some adorable adoptable pets!

As of Friday morning, the Caldor Fire is reported to be at 71 percent containment, and residents of Grizzly Flats, the community closest to where the fire began on Aug. 14, are finally being allowed back home. An estimated containment date has been set for Monday, Sept. 27.

NV Energy announced to its customers Thursday that it has put a Public Safety Outage Management "watch" in place for several communities, including Carson City, Minden, Gardnerville, and Jacks Valley, 19 communities in all, due to gusty winds and fire weather conditions expected to arrive Sunday.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office is requesting assistance with identifying and locating an unidentified man who on August 14th, 2021 at about 5:00 pm stole a wallet from a purse.

The victim was shopping at Costco looking at items in the isles. Her purse was in her shopping cart.

She was not far from her shopping cart when the suspect removed the wallet from her purse.

A 27-year-old Carson City man was arrested for being a drunken pedestrian and obstruction Thursday night after allegedly waving a stick at a vehicle and attempting to run from deputies.

According to the report, deputies were patrolling the area of Fairview Drive and Highway 50 when they saw a vehicle on the side of the road. Deputies pulled over to speak with the driver, who stated she had been driving down the road when a man stepped into the roadway waving a stick at her.

She then pointed out the man, who deputies recognized through previous contacts at the Carson City Jail.

At 11:19 a.m. Friday morning a vehicle versus pedestrian accident was reported near the high school.

According to dispatch, a 20-year-old male was struck by a vehicle and is on the ground. The extent of injuries is unknown at this time.

The renaming of six open space properties was accepted unanimously by the Carson City Board of Supervisors during its Thursday meeting.

The properties were previously unnamed, and the process began in 2018, after the Open Space Advisory Council discussed the naming of open space acquisitions located in the Kings Canyon area.

Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies responded Thursday morning to a possible structure fire at the Carson City Library, 900 North Roop Street.

The fire was called in at around 10:15 a.m. and was reportedly in the second story. The building has been evacuated.

CARSON CITY — Nevada residents and visitors are invited to celebrate Nevada Public Lands Day on Saturday, Sept. 25 with a “fee-free” day at Nevada’s State Parks. Park fees, including entrance, camping (Saturday night) and boating, where applicable, will be waived at state parks throughout Nevada.

The Nevada Highway Patrol has identified a Pahrump man who died in a single vehicle rollover Wednesday, Sept. 8 on USA Parkway SR-439 in Silver Springs.

Thousands of rubber ducks will take a float down the Truckee River this Saturday as the Nevada Humane Society hosts its annual Duck Race Festival at Bartley Ranch Regional Park in Reno.

The family-friendly festival, which runs from 4 to 9 p.m., promises to deliver a fun and free way to support pet adoptions run through the agency, which has branches in Carson City and Reno, as well as a way to meet some of its adoptable shelter pets.

The Carson City Host Lions Club is encouraging children ages 11 to 13 to showcase their talent in the Lions International Peace Poster Contest.

The 2021-2022 contest theme is “We Are All Connected,” and is designed to be a creative way for children to express their visions of peace. The contest winner at the local level will receive a $50 stipend and will move up to the District level for further competition where first place wins $125.

Two men were arrested late Monday after having fled from a traffic stop in Douglas County, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.

Recently, the Carson City Sheriff’s Search and Rescue was honored with a $5,000 donation from the Southwest Gas Foundation in recognition of the commendable resource the 23-crew member volunteer unit is to the community.
