Evacuation orders in place for Kingsbury, additional Nevada areas in South Lake Tahoe

Due to the spread of the Caldor Fire into the south Tahoe area, the following Evacuation Orders were made for Douglas County, Nevada, excluding the Stateline Casinos which are currently housing emergency personnel and operations.
• Upper Kingsbury (South)
• Upper Kingsbury (North)
• Central Kingsbury
• Lower Kingsbury
• Round Hill region and roads including Lower Elks Point
• Lake Village
• Lower Olivers, Kahle Drive region and roads
These Evacuation Orders will include areas from Highway 50 at Lake Parkway, East to Elks Point Road (excluding Stateline Casinos) and State Route 207 (Kingsbury Grade) from Highway 50 to Tramway Drive, including all area roads North and South of Kingsbury Grade.
At this time there are no new evacuation warnings.
Nevada Department of Transportation – Road Closures:
The following are soft road closures, meaning the roads are open to residents and employees who must enter the area to access their home or work.
• US 50 going west bound (into the Tahoe Basin) at Spooner Jct. (S. Carson St & 50)
• SR 207 west bound at Foothill Rd (intersection at the bottom of Kingsbury Grade)
• SR 28 and US 50 Jct. West Bound on 50
These communities are asked to be on the alert and start preparing for potential evacuations. Evacuations have not been ordered at this time, however there is potential for evacuation orders in the near future and road closures are imminent. Please stay vigilant, pay attention to emergency phone alerts, and have a plan in place.
Meanwhile, the Douglas County Board of Commissioners has declared a State of Emergency as a precautionary action due to the Caldor Fire burning in parts of Amador and El Dorado counties, according to a news release.
The declaration will be submitted to the State of Nevada and will allow regional partners to speed up the delivery of resources required to respond more effectively to the emergency and meet the needs of the community.

Many Federal, State, and Local government agencies including Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District, East Fork Fire, Douglas County, and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office as well as organizations and businesses are cooperating to respond to the fire. Evacuations have occurred in Amador, Alpine and El Dorado Counties, to include South Lake Tahoe, and Douglas County communities around the area have been warned about potential evacuations.
The Douglas County Commissioners delegate the authority to Douglas County Sheriff Daniel Coverley to compel the mandatory evacuation of any persons impacted or threatened by the Caldor Fire within Douglas County.
The fire began Saturday, August 14, 2021 approximately 4 miles South of Grizzly Flats, and 2 miles East of Omo Ranch. The fire size is approximately 191,607 acres and is 16% contained as of August 31, 2021. Over 3,900 personnel are working on the fire.
Douglas County is asking residents to stay vigilant, pay attention to emergency phone alerts, and have a plan in place for evacuations. In addition, plan for power outages and road closures. Have a transportation plan for animals and livestock. Think about fuel, medications, documents, keepsakes, and groceries needed. Think about loved ones on oxygen or anyone who may need assistance leaving their home.
Should evacuations occur, residents will receive an emergency alert notification their phone. Residents who do not have a cell phone or landline, please keep in contact with friends, neighbors and family. Information about the Caldor Fire can be received here:
