The Nevada Department of Public Safety, State Fire Marshal Division has selected the 2021 State of Nevada Fire Prevention Week Poster Contest winners. Fire prevention week is October 3-9, 2021. The National Fire Protection Association theme this year is "Learn the Sounds of Fire Safety."
The winning artwork will be featured on billboards in Carson City, Reno/Sparks, Elko and Las Vegas. Each winner will receive a plaque certificate from the Nevada State Fire Marshal Division, and their class will receive a visit from the State Fire Marshal with Sparky the Fire Dog for the presentation of the award.
"We'd like to thank the Department of Education, students, educators, and parents for their involvement," said State Fire Marshal Mike Dzyak. "These types of contests help educate our students who can then share lifesaving fire safety information with their families. By working together, we can all keep Nevada fire safe."
Winners of the contest are usually selected from four school grade categories; Elementary Levels; 1st through 4th Grades, Elementary Levels; 5th and 6th Grades, Middle School and High School. This year, with the challenges of COVID, the State Fire Marshal was pleased to receive submissions from one grade category, and winners were selected from this group.
