Presentations on ‘Alexander the Great,’ ‘Asteroid Apocalypse’ on Tap at WNC’s Observatory this weekend
Devote part of your weekend to learning more about “Alexander the Great” and the history of asteroid strikes on Earth.
Northern Nevada lecturer Mike Thomas will lead both free presentations on Friday and Saturday nights at Western Nevada College’s Jack C. Davis Observatory.
On Friday at 7:30 p.m., Thomas will talk about one of the greatest military commanders of all time: Alexander the Great. Alexander reportedly never lost a battle and created an empire from Greece to India by the time he was 30 years old.
Thomas’ theme shifts to astronomy on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. with his presentation on the “Asteroid Apocalypse.” His presentation will include previous asteroid strikes on Earth and the possibility of more happening in the future.
Attendees of the free talks are reminded that face coverings are required in WNC campus buildings.
The observatory is open to the public from sundown to 11 p.m. on Saturday nights. The Western Nevada Astronomical Society hosts Star Parties each Saturday night, bringing together people with an interest in astronomy. Newcomers are always welcomed.
The observatory is located at 2699 Vanpatten Drive in Carson City.
