Carson City area entries sought for Lions Club Peace Poster Contest
The Carson City Host Lions Club is encouraging children ages 11 to 13 to showcase their talent in the Lions International Peace Poster Contest.
The 2021-2022 contest theme is “We Are All Connected,” and is designed to be a creative way for children to express their visions of peace. The contest winner at the local level will receive a $50 stipend and will move up to the District level for further competition where first place wins $125.
The International Grand Prize Winner receives a trip to an award ceremony where he/she will receive $5,000 and an award. 23 merit award winners will also be selected and each will receive $500. The deadline for entries is September 30, 2021 at 5 p.m. Entries may be dropped off at the Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada, 813 North Carson Street, or the Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada, 1870 Russell Way, Carson City.
In conjunction with the contest, the Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada will sponsor “Open Studios” in the art room at the Museum on September 15 and 22, from 5 to 7 p.m. where children may work on their Peace Poster entries. The Museum will waive entrance fees for children who participate in the Open Studios, and it will make available a limited amount of supplies to children who need them. An art teacher will also be available to show children how to use art supplies. Children do not need to attend an Open Studio in order to compete in the contest.
