This program focuses on providing gifts and food for struggling local residences so that they too may enjoy a happy holiday season.
Body by Pilates Owner, Angela Kennedy said, “There are many families in our community who struggle every year to enjoy a happy holiday season. This program helps so many. We are very excited to be a part of it again”
RSVP Carnival returns for Nevada Day 2014
Submitted by Danielle Cook on Mon, 10/13/2014 - 12:46amThe carnival is coming to town Oct. 30 - Nov. 2, thanks to Nevada Rural Counties Retired and Senior Volunteers (RSVP). Located at Mills Park, Thursday, Oct. 30, 'Family Night' offers all rides for one dollar each from 5:00PM - 9:00PM. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday the carnival opens at 12:00PM and will be jam packed with food vendors, live music, games, crafts, and more. You can buy an 'all you can ride' wristband, or buy tickets for rides.
Carson City Parks and Recreation Awards Ceremony October 21
Submitted by Danielle Cook on Sun, 10/12/2014 - 10:40pmThe Foundation for the Betterment of Carson City Parks and Recreation will present Special Recognition Awards for year 2014 recipients in a brief ceremony on Tuesday, Oct. 21, at 4:30 p.m. at the monument at the entrance to the Marv Teixeira Pavilion (formerly Pony Express Pavilion) in Mills Park. The public is invited to attend this free, outdoor event.

Each day has a particular dress-up theme, a lunch time activity, and an evening time activity that students can participate. Tuesday’s dress up day is “crazy hat” day.
Empty Bowls Carson City Glazing Day! Free family fun at Carson City Pottery

Restaurants are providing the soup and bread that will fill our Empty Bowls. For a minimum donation of $12, you may select one of the bowls and enjoy a warm winter meal to launch the holiday season. The artisan bowl is yours to keep as a reminder that there are empty bowls in our community. There will also be an art auction at the event!
Annual Light After Dark Walk/Run raises awareness and funds for Advocates
Submitted by Danielle Cook on Fri, 10/10/2014 - 4:30pmThe Advocates to End Domestic Violence invite everyone to join the 'Light After Dark Walk/Run' on Saturday, Oct. 18, 2014. Starting at 11 a.m. on Race Day, participants can pick-up their packets at Riverview Park. Warm-ups will begin at 5:30 p.m. with the RACE starting at 6 p.m. The race course will be the Full Loop once around for the 5K and twice around for the 10K. There will be music and refreshments after the race. They encourage participants to dress up. Each participant will given a glow stick to wear during the event.
Charity and Chills at Stinson's Haunted House

Open sundown until 11 p.m. every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday through Halloween. The entrance fee is a can of food or non-perishable food item or warm winter clothing per person! This is a non-profit organization and the third year running. All donations are being given to two local food pantries!
Students to converge on the Carson River for 2014 Snapshot Day

These field studies provide a unique hands-on opportunity to learn about the Carson River watershed and the natural environment.

Learn How to Teach Basic English to Adults on a One-to-One Basis

Roop (corner of Roop and Beverly). Light snacks will be served. Join community volunteer tutors and learn how to teach basic English to adults on a one-to-one basis. There are more than 100 adults in Carson City and surrounding communities who are eager to learn to speak, read and write English. Instructional materials and training are provided at no charge by the ESL In-Home Program. Neither experience nor foreign language is necessary.
National Honor Society inductees praised at CHS ceremony
Submitted by Kyle Kunz on Mon, 10/06/2014 - 7:29pmThe annual National Honor Society Induction Ceremony took place in the Carson High School gym Monday. The event included 80 new inductees and 79 returning members to make the combined 159 members in the National Honor Society class.
Along with the honored members were some very exclusive guests. Of those guests were a handful of counselors from Carson High School, Carson High School principal Tasha Fuson, Carson City School District Superintendent Richard Stokes and Carson City Mayor Bob Crowell.
PFLAG Candidates Night is this Thursday at the BRIC

The public is invited to attend.
All candidates on the 2014 Carson City ballot — local, regional and state offices — were invited, and a high percentage of them plan to attend.
Senator Square: Theater and music productions, cancer awareness and flu vaccinations in October

The dramatic play had its first show this past weekend. It will continue this coming weekend with performances on Oct. 9, 10, 11 at 7p.m. and again at 2 p.m. on Oct. 11. Carson High School Makes Engineering Addition To School

The room's previous purpose was the old weight training facility but with the new addition of the wrestling room the logical place to break ground for the new lab was the old weight room.

10-week challenge added to this year's Carson City Sheriff's Office Holiday with a Hero campaign

Rather than wait until the holiday season is upon us, the 10 for 10 Challenge is asking people to donate any amount they can (the preferred donation is $10) every week for the next 10 weeks.

The mission and main goal of the FREEZE DON'T SHOOT organization is to bring awareness and resolution to the deadly encounters of family pets with law enforcement officers. This means training and proper containment of our pets, especially when in an emergency situation. We know our dogs personalities and can properly determine when our dog is a true threat.

T- Minus Two Weeks Until Homecoming

That one week of school where everybody dresses like a fashion-less hippy, has wild date proposals and bonds the student body closer as a school. This of course would be the one and only Homecoming week.
This year's homecoming theme is "Around the World" and the date is set for October 14th-October 18th. It would appear that Homecoming is looking very promising thanks to the leadership of this year's Master of Ceremonies: Jared Hearn and Sarah Christl.
Carson Hosts Annual Senior Parent Night

The purpose of the night is to better ensure parents that their senior child or children are on the right track to graduate high school and to better prepare the parents for the endeavors and expenses that come along with being a senior.

Senator Square: Academic achievement, scouting leadership put Carson senior in spotlight

Tyler has a GPA of 4.62 and has increasingly challenged himself with honors and/or AP classes every year, earning academic letters the past two years. He is currently taking four AP classes in his senior year. Talented and well-rounded, Tyler has been in Chamber Choir since freshman year. He has also been a member of the National Honor Society for the past three years and Link Crew for two years. To further develop his leadership ability, Tyler has been involved in Boy Scouts since middle school.
Pooch Plunge to benefit CASI runs today at Carson City Aquatic Center

Bring your pooch to the outdoor pool for a fun time while helping CASI raise money for a new animal shelter. The Plunge is $10 for first dog, $5 for each additional dog. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Bob the Builder and his Can-Do Crew from Home Depot will be at the Children’s Museum, 813 North Carson Street on Saturday from 10am-12pm. They will be featuring kids’ projects with easy to follow instructions.
The event is included with the price of admission.
The Children’s Museum is open 10am-4:30pm Daily (excluding major holidays) and has several hands-on exhibits including a Construction Zone, a Sheriff’s office with Jail Cell, Dinosaurs, Train Exhibits and much more.

They appreciate the love and support shown them by friends, family, and local businesses, and have been raising money for Northern Nevadan families since.
Author, Artist Wayne Scarpaci coming to the Browsers Corner

He will sell and autograph his book. Mr. Scarpaci is also an artist and has painted many of the ships he has studied and written about. Some of his battleship paintings will be on display. Light refreshments will be served. The Browsers Corner is located at 711 East Washington Street in Carson City (across from the library).
