Mary Randall writes children's adventure books, and Sandie is an author of Historic-Paranormal writings. (Sandie's books are supported by the Nevada Historical Society).

Mark Twain at Lake Tahoe explored in Friends of Library book event
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Sun, 11/30/2014 - 7:47pmLocal Author David Antonucci brings his book about Mark Twain at Lake Tahoe to the Friends of the Library Browsers Corner Book Store Thursday, Dec. 4 at 6 p.m. “Fairest Picture: Mark Twain at Lake Tahoe" examines and debunks the many myths and tall tales about Mark Twain at Lake Tahoe.
Mr. Antonucci will be discussing his book, and copies will be available to buy. This event is free and is open to the public. The book store is located at 711 East Washington Street in Carson City.

Emely Lopez, Claudia Vazquez, Kimberly Torres, Karina Munoz, Maria Pacheco, Deanna Earwicker, and Amber Seifert spent the day at the polls welcoming and assisting voters. Each year, CHS government teachers work in conjunction with the Carson City Clerk-Recorder’s office to provide student volunteers for the elections. We’d like to wish out-going Clerk-Recorder Alan Glover the best of luck in his retirement and we look forward to continuing our relationship with that office as Ms.

All dogs must be on leash and cats in a carrier. Share the holiday spirit with the staff at Benson's and CASI volunteers while helping to build a new animal shelter. If you need more information call CASI at 671-2413.

Submitted by Jeff Munson on Thu, 11/27/2014 - 9:51amDozens of families made up hundreds of runners and walkers of all ages who met under sunny skies at the Governor’s Mansion in Carson City this Thanksgiving Day for the 2014 Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot.
The 8K, 5K and Kids Gobble Wobble Fun Run, hosted by St. Teresa of Avila Catholic School, was designed for those who wanted to get some exercise ahead of the parades, pies, football games and big Thanksgiving Day meals. See the video below.
Ice Skating Rink returns to Carson City's Arlington Square

Carson St. Opening day will be Friday, Nov. 28, the day after Thanksgiving, with three session times to choose from: 10 a.m. - 1 p.m., 2 p.m. - 5 p.m., and 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. Skate rental is $3 and a skate session is $7 for those over 13 years old and $5 for youth 3-12 years old.
Afterschool Skate Special for Elementary and Middle School Students:
Monday - Thursday 3 p.m. - 5 p.m.: $5 skating includes skates and one hot beverage of choice.
Carson Nugget and FISH reunite for 60th Annual Free Thanksgiving meal

The Carson Nugget will again be hosting its free Thanksgiving dinner in the Banquet Room from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 27 with a helping hand from Friends In Service Helping (FISH) and a some local dignitaries like Mayor Bob Crowell and his wife, Susan.
This is the 60th year the local casino at 507 N. Carson St. has opened its doors to anyone and everyone who would like to partake in turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce, yams, green bean casserole, rolls and a variety of pies without the kitchen mess.
Nevada attorney association partners with Toys for Tots to donate toys to families in need

New, unwrapped toys are being collected through Dec. 12, 2014, and the public is encouraged to participate.

They are asking small business owners, those in local government and community members to give what they can.
Carson City chiropractic office hosts community-wide charity initiative

This initiative will be benefiting families and individuals in need during this holiday season by collecting used coats and new toys (still in boxes) for less fortunate children. This is an incredible effort that the members of Dudley Chiropractic have taken to heart, and Dr. Thomas Dudley expects to have a large donation to send by the end of December.

Make a pine needle angel to decorate your holiday tree and craft a holiday wreath out of cones; choose easy crafts for younger audiences. Learn how to tell a pine from a fir or spruce by looking at their cones and needles. Discover one of our state trees, the Pinyon Pine, a plant collected during John C. Frémont’s 2nd expedition.
WNC Scholarship Workshop for Student Vets on Dec. 11

The two-hour workshop is being presented by the Veterans Resource Center on Thursday, Dec. 11, 1 p.m. It will assist veterans in applying for WNC scholarships through the WNC Foundation Scholarship program, as well as two $500 scholarships provided by the Vietnam Veterans of America.
Community and Senior Center in Gardnerville to celebrate grand opening

Friends To All volunteers seek names for Santa visits to Carson City area seniors

On Saturday, Dec. 13 these festive groups will log between 150 and 200 stops as they make their rounds visiting and delivering gifts. This year we give special appreciation and honor to the man who inspired our program, Raymond Smith, who passed away in September. Ray’s enthusiasm in bringing the joy of a visit from Santa Claus to so many in our community will live on in our hearts forever.
2nd Annual Empty Bowls Soup Feast and Bowl Event

Carson High Football Program Supports Food for Thought

In effort to return some support to the community the football program wanted to do something that would have a great, positive impact during their bye week. A few ideas were tossed around before settling on Food For Thought as the organization they would like to help out.
Food For Thought is a local organization that provides weekend food for school aged children in the community that are chronically hungry.

It's Your City: Mike's Pharmacy hosts 16th Annual Turkey Round-Up this Wednesday
Submitted by editor on Mon, 11/17/2014 - 6:05amThis week's It's Your City features Mike Hautekeet, owner of Mike's Pharmacy, and Mike's daughter, Monique. They discuss the 16th Annual Turkey Round-Up that will be held this Wednesday, Nov. 19 from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Carson City.
Turkeys collected will go to help food banks in Carson City, Douglas and Lyon counties. Bring turkeys and non-perishabe food to Mike's Pharmacy, 1007 North Curry Street. The turkeys and other food collected will be distributed by the Carson City Salvation Army. Last year the roundup helped more than 3,000 families. Watch the video for details.
