Plenty of ways to stay warm on Parade Day
Submitted by Danielle Cook on Thu, 10/30/2014 - 9:41amHere in Carson City, the Nevada Day Parade is a great event, rain or shine, snow, wind, or likely a combination of it all. This year, we are expecting a cold one. Have no fear, however, there will be plenty of places to grab some grub, coffee, hot chocolate, bloody marys, or shelter from the rain while you watch the balloons lift off at 8 a.m. or wait for the 10 a.m. parade.

Republican Women's Pancake Breakfast At the Governor's Mansion
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Wed, 10/29/2014 - 8:28pmA great Nevada Day celebration starts with breakfast at the Governor's Mansion, courtesy of the Carson City Republican Women's Club. All proceeds go toward two $1,000 scholarship for two deserving students, one from Carson High and one from Dayton High.
Breakfast is available from 7:00am to 9:30am before the Nevada Day parade. The cost remains the same as it has for the past 14 years: $6 for Adults and $3 for children under 10.
CASI's Salute and Thank You to Veterans Bingo

We will also be having fun raffle prizes and cake and ice cream for all players.Bingo buy-in is $10 with extra packs at $5 all additional games are extra. Doors open at 11:30 games start at 12:30. Snack bar available. Must be 21 to play.
Carson City launches anti-drug message through Red Ribbon campaign
Submitted by editor on Tue, 10/28/2014 - 10:38am“Drug Use is Life Abuse” is a message on red wristbands that is spreading throughout the community in celebration of the Red Ribbon campaign Oct. 21-31. The week-long event is one of the nation’s largest substance abuse prevention awareness causes.
Carson City Sheriff’s Office, Carson City School District, Grocery Outlet, community agencies including the Boys and Girls Club, counseling and A.A. groups are partners to make youth and citizens aware that substance abuse affects everyone.

Name the Beast Contest

All children through 6th grade are eligible to enter the contest. Every child who enters the contest can choose a free book. The contest closes on Thursday, November 6th and the winners will be announced on Saturday, November 8th. Winners will receive books and other prizes. Come in to the book store at 711 E. Washington to see the Beast and learn more about the contest.
Senator Square: Carson High senior Caden Lehman wins national rodeo event
Submitted by editor on Sun, 10/26/2014 - 9:06amCaden Lehman, a senior at Carson High School, an officer for the Capitol FFA program, and an officer in the Douglas-Carson High School Rodeo Club, recently had his biggest win doing what he loves. He is involved in Team Roping and Calf Roping and is a member of the American Cowboys Team Roping Association.
Recently at the ACTRA National Finals in Reno at the Livestock Events Center, Caden won the Super 7 National Championship, landing him and his partner, Jack Curry of Gardnerville, each new Royal T 3-horse trailers, buckles, and $10,000 cash.

Nevada’s faith leaders from various traditions will join together to pray for God’s mercy and for the victims and their families and care providers at the Nevada Governor’s Mansion in Carson City on Nov. 13.

The office is open to voters 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Saturdays. Voters should have received a sample ballot in the mail Oct. 14.

In addition to being an excellent student, Challen is also heavily involved in theater both at Carson High School and in the community. Challen has been a part of nearly every Carson High School production since his freshman year, including behind the scenes as the stage manager of the most recent play, The House of Bernarda Alba.
41st Annual Nevada Day World Championship Single Jack Drilling Contest

Come view the old-world contest of strength, skill, and Sierra White Granite grit; free for spectators.
Contestants used 4 1/2 pound hammers and as many as 11 bits of graduated steel to drill a 3/4 inch hole in a 4,320 pound piece of Sierra White Granite.

Pony Express riders arrive Friday at Nevada State Capitol Building
Submitted by editor on Thu, 10/16/2014 - 11:19amOn Friday, Oct. 17, Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki will be on hand to accept a special delivery from Pony Express riders at 3:30 p.m. on the south steps of the Nevada State Capitol Building.
In honor of Nevada’s Sesquicentennial, the White Pine, Eureka, Lander, and Churchill County Commissions have each issued special proclamations. These county proclamations will be picked up by Pony Express Riders in Ely, Eureka, Austin and Fallon and will be delivered on horseback to the Nevada State Capitol Building.
