National Honor Society inductees praised at CHS ceremony
The annual National Honor Society Induction Ceremony took place in the Carson High School gym Monday. The event included 80 new inductees and 79 returning members to make the combined 159 members in the National Honor Society class.
Along with the honored members were some very exclusive guests. Of those guests were a handful of counselors from Carson High School, Carson High School principal Tasha Fuson, Carson City School District Superintendent Richard Stokes and Carson City Mayor Bob Crowell.
Mr. Crowell was also selected to be the honorary key not speaker for the night. The address he delivered featured some of his memories of being in National Honor Society at Carson High School and some of the struggles he encountered while transitioning from high school into college at Stanford University.
He continued about the speed of life, and how our lives are changing faster than ever before. He finished the address on a positive note talking about why college is a life long investment and how hard work and good ethics will get you very far in life.
Mrs. Elena Glenn, one of the advisers of the National Honor Society, was excited to talk about NHS and what they do.
"It is an academic and service organization. To be invited you have to have 3.45 or higher simple GPA along with an application and one letter of recommendation from a community member."
I asked Mrs. Glenn why students should be interested in a program like NHS and she responded with, "It is an honor and a recognition. The students get to perform in various community service opportunities and make the community a better place. It also looks very good on resumes and gives them more opportunities to build up their resumes." It is apparent that colleges like to see activities like these, so NHS is a great opportunity for students to start building that community service resume.
