The Nevada Arts Council has awarded nearly $50,000 in grants to 14 Nevada artists selected to receive FY17 Artist Fellowships, executive director Susan Boskoff announced today. From Las Vegas, Reno and Minden, their work includes music, poetry, choreography fiction and non-fiction. In addition, artist Stephan Caplan received a $6,955 grant in the Fellowship Project category for new work.

The weekend of July 23 and 24 the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park will feature two days of Dangberg family history with a Chautauqua on Fred Dangberg, Jr. and a presentation by his real life grandson Steve “Dink” Achard. Both presentations are free.

Mile High Jazz Band Association and Carson City present the 13th Annual Jazz & Beyond Festival. It features 17 days of Music and Art at multiple venues in Carson City, August 5-21.

"Jazz & Beyond is a homegrown event celebrating the talent of our region and relying on many local music fans who donate their time and effort," said committee co-chair David Bugli, President of the Mile High Jazz Band Assoc. "Volunteers, sponsors, and advertisers help us make the event one of the best in the area, and keep most performances admission free."

Brewery Arts Center in Carson City continues its free summer concert series this Saturday featuring internationally known reggae artist Prezident Brown as headliner and Carson City's own Stereo Galaxy as the opening act.

July 12, 2016---Head down to the Brewery Arts Center this Saturday night for an unforgettable free concert under the stars! As with every Saturday night concert, there will be food and drink on hand as well as kid’s activities and fun for the whole family.

Back by popular demand, the United States Air Force Band of the Golden West will be bringing their full concert band to the Bob Boldrick Theater at the Carson City Community Center on August 16 for a 7 p.m. show.

This year, the performance will coincide with and be a part of the annual Carson City Jazz & Beyond Carson City Music Festival that begins on August 5.

In this week's edition of It's Your City, host Cortney Bloomer talks with Zack Hames about the upcoming second annual Sassabration Festival on Saturday, July 16 from noon to 9 p.m. at Sassafras, 1500 Old Hot Springs Road.

The Nevada Artists Association presents it's "Spirit of America" art exhibit. This judged show includes all artists from the region. Awards were given in seven media categories. Located at Carson City's Brewery Arts Center the gallery is open Monday through Saturday, 10am to 4pm.

Building on its operatic 11th Anniversary BOPS Celebration series from July, TOCCATA-Tahoe Symphony Orchestra and Chorus will continue its 21-concert Summer MusicFest with a new series entitled Mozart in the Mountains, including an Aug. 10 performance in Carson City.

The Reno Chamber Orchestra presents Catherine Manoukian. The performance begins with the seldom performed yet stunningly beautiful Violin Concerto by the English composer Sir Edward Elgar. Performed by the Canadian violinist Catherine Manoukian the concerto is a marathon for both soloist and orchestra. The concert is rounded out by an early symphony of the Czech composer Antonin Dvorak considered heavily influenced by the German Richard Wagner. The Reno Chamber Orchestra presents Bella Hristova. The performance begins with an audience favorite by Mendelssohn, the Hebrides Overture. Bella Hristova then joins the RCO in a performance of the Violin Concerto written for her by her husband-to-be, David Ludwig, as a wedding gift. The program ends on a high note with the most humorous of all Beethoven symphonies, Number 8 in the key of F major. One night each year, John Street, adjacent to Cafe at Adele’s in Carson City is transformed into an intimate music venue for Concert Under the Stars, and for a few precious moments the air is filled with great music, a lot of love and laughter in order to raise money that continues the The Greenhouse Project’s mission of educating the next generation of farmers and feeding the under served in the community.

TACH (Traditional Association for Cultural Harmony) a non profit organization presents "An Evening with WORLD MUSIC" on July, 2016. The event will present a collaboration of Indo-American artist, Indian Classical, Jazz, Fusion, Saxophone, Flute and Harp.

TACH performs "Music of India" in Washoe County District Schools & Libraries from last couple of years through Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts. This organization works for community service in the field of music and in continuation TACH is presenting it's event on July 17th, 2016.

Carson City’s rich and intriguing history is explored and theatrically relived in our seasonal evening walking tours, led by Madame Curry a ghostly, witty and fictional character named after the widow of Carson City’s founder, Abe Curry.

The Carson City Ghost Walks evening walking tours are a delightfully spooky and enjoyable way to experience Carson City’s Victorian Era and diverse history. Tours are this Saturday, July 9 and again on Saturday, July 23.

Speaker Jim Clark will present his program, “Trains in the Movies”, in a free presentation at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Saturday, July 9, at 10:00 am.

Jim Clark is a veteran of more than 250 films, an engineer and a train coordinator. Known as "The Train Man," Clark will give a short history of trains in the movies and explain the technical aspects of working with trains.
