Nevada Artists Association names annual photography exhibit winners

The Resident Artist Program in Silver City Welcomes Frances Melhop
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Tue, 08/02/2016 - 1:04pmSilver City, Nevada - Narrative, story-telling visual artist Frances Melhop, voted “One of the World's 200 Best Advertising Photographers 2009/2010″ by Luerzers Archive, will bring her skills and talents to the Resident Artist Program in Silver City this summer. She'll set up a temporary studio at the Silver City School House during August 2016, photographing some of the Comstock’s longtime residents for a 2017 exhibition at the Haldan Art Gallery at Tahoe.
CCAI Print Project exhibition

Ten University of Nevada, Reno [UNR] student artists created the art posters in class earlier this summer. The building is open to the public daily, 8am – noon, 1-4pm. The free exhibition will remain in the building’s lobby exhibition space through August 29.

The free exhibition is available to the public from July 11 - November 10, 2016. CCAI will host a reception for the artist on Friday, September 9, 5-7pm in the Sierra Room.

On Saturday, August 13, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. fiber artist Marilyn Elligott will be at the Historic Fourth Ward School Museum in Virginia City demonstrating the art and history of fiber spinning and weaving. Marilyn has been involved with fiber arts for over 40 years and uses locally grown fiber from sheep and alpaca. This special presentation is included in your museum admission. Visitors will get a chance to try their hand at various types of looms and watch as Marilyn turns animal fiber into yarn on her spinning wheel.

Kenny Neal and the Family Band headline the show from 2 to 7 p.m. Saturday, July 30, at the Genoa Station State Historic Park. Grady Champion, an International Blues Challenge champion, also will perform, along with Reno’s Buddy Emmer Blues Band.

“Mi Casa es Mi Casa” honors Nevada and Guatemala traditions in OXS Gallery’s Favela exhibit

In the Nevada Arts Council’s latest OXS Gallery exhibit, Justin Favela looks at the idea of “home.” A native Nevadan, Favela is proud to be from the Battle Born State and also pays homage to his Guatemalan maternal grandmother by recreating objects found in her home. Objects that have been part of the domestic landscape for his entire life have helped form his identity, and in the exhibition, represent the love he has for his grandmother and her home.

I would be hard pressed to choose between the Nevada Day Parade and the annual Taste of Downtown. Luckily, I can adore them both, and for much the same reason. They are a celebration of community, of Carson City, of our historic downtown and all that it has to offer. In addition to 'The Taste', the Brewery Arts Center goes country with the Southern Drawl Band on its outdoor stage, and Madam Curry leads another downtown Ghost Walk. CASI Bingo

Doors open at 11:30 AM and the first game starts at 12:30 PM. Buy in is $10 and extra packs are $5. Special games are $1 each. We also have a 50/50 raffle and door prizes too. No need to worry about lunch as we offer hot dogs at our snack bar and sometimes the wonderful volunteers will bring something yummy to eat.

Nevada Author Releases Debut Solo Album

The self-produced album is being distributed worldwide by CD Baby and is available for streaming and download on iTunes, Spotify, Rhapsody, Google Play, iHeartRadio, Tidal, and other music stores. The eight tracks on the debut album have also been incorporated into a sync-licensing program through YouTube and other partners.
