Hold onto your hats, Carson City, summer has arrived with a bang. Bikes, brews, bulls and broncs are just a few of the things you’ll find on this event summary. Whether you are looking for adult fun, family fun, art, music, shopping, or something outdoorsy, look no further: Carson City and her neighboring valleys are packed full of fun.

SATURDAY:

• Reno-Tahoe Odyssey (178 mile relay race; begins at Wingfield Park in downtown Reno; legs 24-28 run through Carson City)

Kyle Horvath, director of marketing for the Carson City Visitors Bureau, updates us on all there is to do in the capital city this weekend. Brew Fest, Wine Walk, art, mural painting and more. Follow Kyle on his art studio tour this week.

The Reno Chamber Orchestra presents an elegant evening of chamber music. The event will include performances by Ruth Lenz, John Lenz, Peter Lenz, Carol Laube, Kati Dayner and Dustin Budish who will be playing the music of Mozart and Brahms.

The event will be followed by champagne and desserts that will be provided by Franz Backstube. Must RSVP by Monday June 13th. The event is $100 per person.

The Sands Regency’s 18th Annual EuroFest brings together free, live entertainment, a wide variety of European cuisine, more than 70 European and craft beers and a multitude of craft booths to provide Reno with a fun-filled celebration of culture for all ages. It is free to attend the event and proceeds benefit the Shriners Hospitals for Children.

The Brewery Arts Center, in partnership with the Municipality of Carson City and the Levitt Amp Foundation, is introducing a brand-new live music concert series to the Nevada state capital starting Saturday, June 4 and running ten consecutive weeks through August 6.

There will be no better place to be Thursday, July 14, than at Cafe at Adele’s in Carson City for the eighth annual Concert Under the Stars, A Benefit for The Greenhouse Project, when the summer air fills with the unstoppable rhythm, blues and funk sounds of Tower of Power, who have delighted crowds since they first began playing in Oakland, Calif.

Come join us at the official Smackdown Rodeo AfterParty! Line Dancing/Open Dance to DJ Music begins at 8pm with Southbound Train taking the stage at 9pm to rock all you Cowboys (and Cowgirls) with a great mix of Country, Classic Rock, and Blues!

Monthly Lecture: Don't Believe Everything You Think with Karin Sable. Negative thoughts are a normal part of the developing brain. Understanding how these thoughts evolve and their relationship to mood and behavior gives us power to reconsider our thinking and affect real change in our lives. This process of self-discovery can give us a pathway to growth, conflict resolution, and help us improve our mood and behavior. Seating is available at 5:30 p.m. to guests who have pre-registered open seating starts at 5:50 p.m. and the program begins at 6:00 p.m.

Tahoe Chamber Music Society closes its 2016 season by welcoming back saxophonist Peter Epstien and the University of Nevada Jazz Quartet. The recital will feature original compositions and favorite standards.

Carson City Symphony's Strings in the Summer, directed by Sue Jesch, gets underway with weekly sessions beginning in June. The program is open to all and includes classes at two levels of music experience. Tuition is free, donations welcome.

Historian and author Frank X. Mullen will present his program, “In the Footsteps of the Donner Party” in a free presentation at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Saturday, June 4, at 10 a.m.

Frank X. Mullen, author of The Donner Party Chronicles: A Day-By-Day Account of a Doomed Wagon Train, takes audiences on the trail of pioneers in a presentation that features artifacts and reproductions of items used by 1840s travelers.

Performing the best of Cole Porter to Stevie Wonder, the Reno Jazz Orchestra’s 17-piece jazz band will present “Music of the Masters” - a live performance of blues, swing, and soul with award winning vocalists Jamie Davis and Clairdee on Friday, September 2 at the Robert Z Hawkins Amphitheatre in Reno, NV, and Saturday, September 3rd, at Sand Harbor State Park on the edge of Lake Tahoe’s north shore.

Get ready for two swinging nights this summer as the 17-piece Reno Jazz Orchestra presents “Such Sweet Thunder” - an evening that features the music of Duke Ellington on July 30 at Wingfield Park in Reno, NV, and at Sand Harbor State Park on the edge of Lake Tahoe’s north shore on Monday, August 1.

The Capital City Arts Initiative [CCAI] announces its exhibition, New Crop 2016, by five artists from Sierra Nevada College and the University of Nevada Reno at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery. CCAI will host a reception for the artists on Friday, June 3, 5-7pm and the artists will give brief talks about their work at 5:30pm. The show will be open to the public Monday – Friday, 8am -5pm from June 3 – September 29, 2016. The Courthouse is located at 885 E Musser Street, Carson City. The reception and the exhibition are free.

'Stagecoach' is a 1939 American Western film starring Claire Trevor and John Wayne in his breakthrough role. Director John Ford combined action, drama, humor, and a set of well-drawn characters in the story of a group of strangers riding on a stagecoach through dangerous Apache territory.

The film offers plenty of cowboys, Indians, shootouts, and chases, aided by Bert Glennon's majestic photography of Ford's beloved Monument Valley.

TOCCATA kicks off its 11th Summer MusicFest with “Go4Baroque - Summer Solstice Series” on Sunday, June 12, 4:00 pm, at St Patrick’s Episcopal Church in Incline Village (341 Village Blvd).

The program opens with Bach’s Concerto in C Minor BWV100, featuring Josue Casillas on flute and Nita Tune, oboe, and continues with Bach’s Cantata BWV 180, Schmücke Dich, with soloists Anna Helwing, Becky Earl and Anne Davidson, sopranos; Brad Perry, tenor; and Emzy Burroughs, baritone.

The Carson High School Theatre Arts Department recently held its annual "Drammy Awards" in the Brewery Arts Center Ballroom. Several Carson City area students were acknowledged for excellence in performance both onstage and off, and many were given special honors including induction into the International Thespian Society, Received CHS Letters, and more.

High Sierra Swing Dance Club presents its monthly dance party May 21 at the Brewery Arts Center’s Grand Ballroom, 449 W. King St., Carson City.

At 6:30 p.m., Mark Blume will teach a lesson in Intermediate West Coast Swing and guest DJ. Social dancing is 7:30-10 p.m. Partners are not required.

Lesson $7 for HSSDC and sister swing dance club members or $10 for non members; dance $7 for members of swing clubs and $10 for nonmembers. Join the club that night, and the dance is free.
