Margaret Maatala has been drawing since she was a little girl, and is self-taught. Sometimes as a child she would just sit alone and draw characters from books she read, as art was always her passion.

While raising her family, she began creating special greeting cards for friends and family, eventually starting a cottage business where she would design and produce those cards, under the name Maggie M’s Original Creation.

Young Chautauquans will present “People Who United the States” at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Wednesday, June 28, at 6:30 pm.

The Douglas County Historical Society's Young Chautauqua Program presenters are 15 year old Jahmila Santiago as “Sarah Winnemucca”, 15 year old Sandia Johnson as “Abigail Fillmore”, 6 year old Sam Johnson as “John Muir”, 10 year old Micaiah Maulis as “Thomas Edison” and 9 year old Mamre Maulis as “John Glen”.

Steve Hale will portray the legendary mailman of the Sierra, Jon A. “Snowshoe Thompson, at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Wednesday, June 21, at 6:30 pm.

When Jon Thompson put on his 8-foot skis and heavy leather mail pack in 1856, he skied to Genoa and into history. His two to three day 90-mile crossings (one way) carrying the mail and valuable packages of up to 100 pounds on his back through the snow have never been physically duplicated, not even with modern equipment. This extraordinary feat has become part of the legacy and spirit of the pioneer American West.

The Carson City Off-Road will bring some of the country’s best mountain bike riders into Carson City for the weekend. But the event isn’t just about cycling.

The Nevada Artists Association invites all local and regional artists and photographers to enter it's "Spirit of America" art show. The exhibit, to be shown at the NAA gallery which is located at Carson City's Brewery Arts Center, is open to non-members as well as members.

The full lineup for the 2017 Night in the Country Music Festival, set for July 27-29, has been released. The weekend will bring headliners Thomas Rhett, Justin Moore supported by Drake White and The Big Fire, Craig Morgan, Michael Ray and Tucker Beathard as well as many others.

We are gathering together some of northern Nevada’s funniest dads to celebrate dad humor and recount hilarious stories of fatherhood.

The Brewery Arts Center is hosting Night of 1000 Dad Jokes: A Stand-Up Comedy Showcase by Dads on Tuesday, June 20 at 7 pm (doors at 6:30) at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall, located at 511 W. King St. Carson City.

What began 12 years ago as a music celebration in the back parking lot at Cafe at Adele’s has now grown past the confines of John Street — adjacent to the restaurant — and moves this year to Brewery Arts Center in Carson City.

This year's show ‘Legends Are Forever’ is going to be our biggest and most entertaining to date. Our theme is about legendary icons such as singers, composers, ballets, bands and children's favorites that have given us inspiration to dance.

"We have split our recital into 3 separate shows, hoping to give our audiences an enjoyable experience watching different levels of dancers perform excellent choreography with passion, technique and the Love of Dance,” said Joan Elias Forever Dance’s Artistic Director/Owner.

Because of the strong possibility of rain this afternoon, the Carson City Symphony's Pops Party Concert today (June 11) is being moved to the North Room at the Governor's Mansion. Occupancy is limited, but "the show must go on." Pre-entertainment begins at 3:30 p.m.

Planes, trains, and automobiles take over Carson City this weekend. Steampunk ‘N’ Trains at the Nevada Railroad Museum features train rides, fun costumes, food trucks and more. You’ll find two car shows in town – the Party at the Pavilion as part of the Nevada State Fair and the Carson City Downtown Revival Car Show at the Carson Nugget. The Carson Airport Fly-In and Open House has plenty of aeronautic fun in store. You’ll have to keep reading for all of the fun options in Carson City and the surrounding valleys.

Learn to form beautiful lettering with calligraphy and use it to create greeting cards for many occasions.
Students will learn the basics of calligraphy and other types of lettering and how to design, measure spacing, and decorate greeting cards and small signs. Materials included in class fee. One week long class.

Have fun with Improv! We will use games, team-building exercises and basic improv structures. No experience necessary. Students wll gain confidence on stage, employ public speaking skills, think quickly on their feet and create fun scenes out of thin air. They will put on a show for their families and friends at the end of the week.

Each person will design and decorate a gourd of their choice with a wood burner and art supplies. This class will include the history of gourds in society and develop skills using a wood burner (pyrography) safely. Ages 9 and up. Students need to be conscientious about burners.

Using all natural materials such as sticks, feathers, beads, cords, etc., all participants will design a talking stick. The stick was passed around during meetings of native Americans to provide the opportunity for each person to speak and be heard. It helps teach respect for ideas and contributions from all. This class is very effective at teaching young people polite talking and listening skills.

Do you have a novel, memoir, or creative non fiction you want to write? Learn the steps you need, whether you have an idea already or not. This class helps you with all of the prep work you need before you begin writing.

Open Studio Pottery is for experienced students who have previously enrolled in at least one beginning pottery class and who want to use the studio for independent projects and skill development. An instructor is present to assist and answer questions, but no formal instruction or assignments will be given. Glazes and firing are included in tuition. Students must purchase their own clay in the studio.

This first class the student will be familiarized with the darkroom. They will be shown how to set up the chemical trays, the parts of the enlarger, how to load film, how to print a contact print, determine exposure time and to print a final photo. This is a one on one instruction class. In this class we will first assess your photographic knowledge and then plan the class course from there. In this class you will learn how to choose, load and take photographs with a 35mm film camera. If you have no prior photography education we will lightly cover photography basics.
