With the Carson City Creepy Short Horror Film Competition approaching, local film production group Wired Wednesday is offering a free workshop on filmmaking.

Dogs made a big splash Saturday morning during the annual Carson Animal Services Initiative (CASI) Pooch Plunge in the outdoor pool at the Carson City Aquatics Facility in Carson City.

This will be a leisurely walk along tree lined streets with lots of architectural details and fall foliage to photograph.

CARSON CITY, Nevada – After a long and distinguished academic career, Las Vegas artist Mary Warner has earned the luxury of time and an opportunity to reconsider her subject of choice – nature. The winner of the 2011 Governor’s Arts Award for Excellent in the Arts, Warner takes a fresh approach in her current exhibition, “Second Nature,” which is featured at the Nevada Arts Council’s OXS Gallery in Carson City from Sept. 25 through Nov. 10.

The most iconic symbol of Nevada is the wild horse featured on postcards and other Nevada memorabilia. The wild horses and burros are found throughout the state, most especially in the northern regions.

One of Disney's biggest and most fondly remembered hits, the spectacular screen version of the literary classic Swiss Family Robinson is full of breathtaking South Seas scenery, hundreds of exotic animals, and treacherous pirates. This heroic tale chronicles the courageous exploits of the Robinson family after they are shipwrecked on a deserted island.

The Mile High Jazz Band with vocalist Jakki Ford will be joined by several poets and readers on Tuesday, September 12, 2017, 7:30-9:30 p.m., for an evening of big-band music and poetry on the theme "Just Sayin’."

Each poem will be followed by a related big-band tune. The event will be at Comma Coffee, 312 S. Carson Street, across the street from the state legislature building in Carson City, outdoors in the adjacent courtyard, weather permitting. Admission is $5 general and free for age 18 and under.
