Carson City and Lake Tahoe area road report through July 27

Here is the Carson City area road report for the week of July 20-27, 2014: There will be road work on the section of Timberline Drive between both intersections with Prospect Drive. This section will be open to local traffic only, and through traffic will be detoured onto Prospect Drive.

There will be utility work primarily in the street shoulder on weekdays at the following locations. Minimal delays are possible.

— Gulch Road between Wagon Wheel Road and Combs Canyon Road.
— Lakeview Road west of Combs Canyon Road.
— Sandy Circle.

The following road closures will occur due to special events:

— On Thursday, July 24, Ninth Street between Fall Street and Carson Street from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.
— On Thursday, July 24, Plaza Street between Eighth Street and the south end of the street from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.
— On Friday, July 25, Curry Street between Telegraph Street and Washington Street from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m.
— On Friday, July 25, Robinson Street between Carson Street and Nevada Street from 3:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Beginning July 20, major paving work on Highway 50 in the Moundhouse area begins as part of a Nevada Department of Transportation project to enhance the highway. Single lane closures are scheduled to take place weekdays as the roadway surface is milled and repaved.

One eastbound lane will be closed for paving from approximately 7 p.m. to 11 a.m. weekdays. Paving will also take place on the westbound freeway between 1 p.m. and 5:30 a.m., with single lane closures. The paving work is expected to complete by mid-August, with the entire project scheduled for completion in the fall.

In Douglas County work continues now through October on the Kingsbury Grade project along State Route 207 between Carson Valley and Lake Tahoe. The road is open with night work Sundays through Fridays, 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. There will be single lane closures at night and intermittently during the day through the duration of the project, according to the Nevada Department of Transportation.

Elsewhere around Lake Tahoe and the Sierra from July 20-26: State Route 89 (Placer County): Work continues on a $41 million project from Tahoma to "Y" junction with State Route 28 in Tahoe City on Lake Tahoe’s West Shore that will upgrade storm water drainage and treatment systems, add curb and gutter, resurface and realign the road, add new left-turn pockets and widen shoulders on a 9-mile stretch of the highway. Completion is expected in fall 2016.

State Route 89 (Placer County) from Wilson Avenue to Granlibakken Road in Tahoe City: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control at various locations around the clock from 10 p.m. Sunday until 10 a.m. Friday for paving, drainage and utility work.

State Route 89 (Placer County): Work continues on a $4 million project from the "Y" junction of State Routes 28/89 in Tahoe City to Alpine Meadows Road making drainage and slope corrections on about a 4-mile stretch of Highway 89. Completion is expected this fall.

State Route 89 (Placer County) from the "Y" intersection to Alpine Meadows Road: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control from midnight to 8 a.m. Monday and 6 p.m. to 8 a.m. Monday through Thursday for drainage work.

State Route 89 (El Dorado County): Work continues on a $20 million water-quality project from 0.1 mile north of the Eagle Falls Sidehill Viaduct No. 5 in Emerald Bay to the Meeks Creek Bridge in Meeks Bay. This project is adding new drainage features, curb and gutter, and resurfacing a nearly 7-mile stretch of the highway. Completion is expected in fall 2015.

State Route 89 (El Dorado County) from Scenic Drive to Meeks Creek: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday for grinding and paving work. Also, motorists can expect one-way traffic control from 10 p.m. Sunday to 6 a.m. Monday and 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Friday for drainage work.

State Route 28 (Placer County): Work continues on Placer County’s $50 million Kings Beach Commercial Core Improvement Project from State Route 267 to Chipmunk Street. The project will install curb and gutter, sidewalks, roundabouts and drainage systems to enhance pedestrian and bicycle mobility, improve safety and provide water-quality improvements.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County): Work continues on a $12.1 million water-quality and roadway improvement project from the "Y" intersection of Highways 50 and 89 to the South Lake Tahoe Airport adding curb and gutter, sidewalks, new drainage systems and repaving the highway. Completion is expected this fall.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) from Airport Road to the "Y" intersection: Eastbound and westbound motorists can expect alternating lane closures from midnight to 9 a.m. Monday and 7 p.m. to 10 a.m. Monday through Friday for grinding and paving.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County): Work continues on a $15.3 million water-quality project from Johnson Pass Road to Incline Road in Meyers to install new drainage systems, widen shoulders and add bike lanes in one section, and restore a section of the exiting bike path.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) from Johnson Pass Road to Sawmill Road: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control at various locations from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Wednesday for drainage work.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County): Work continues on a $7.67 million project to replace the bridge over Sly Park Road in Pollock Pines. The project will also add sidewalks to both sides of Sly Park Road, curb and gutter and curb ramps. Completion is expected this fall or spring 2015.

Highway 50 is reduced to one lane in each direction over Sly Park Road during construction of the new bridge.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County): Work continues on an $18.5 million project by El Dorado County to reconstruct the U.S. Highway 50 ramps to El Dorado Hills Boulevard and Latrobe Road in El Dorado Hills. Completion is expected this fall.

State Route 89 (El Dorado County) from the Alpine County line to the junction with U.S. Highway 50 in Meyers: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control from 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday for paving.

State Route 193 (El Dorado County) from the junction with State Route 49 in Cool to American River Road: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday for pavement work.

State Route 267 (Nevada County) from the junction with Interstate 80 to Brockway Road/Soaring Way in Truckee: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. Monday through Friday for bridge work.

A widespread power outage Saturday evening has affected much of Douglas County, including Minden, Gardnerville and areas of the south county and Kingsbury. NV Energy reports 14,034 customers were without power as of around 9 p.m.
