CARSON CITY — V&T Railway is celebrating Halloween with family-friendly and spooky railbike rides. Running Friday, Oct. 23 through Sunday, Oct. 25 and Wednesday, Oct. 28 through Sunday, Oct. 31, V&T Railway will offer children and adult focused haunted railbike rides at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., respectively.

The historic mining town of Virginia City is regarded as one of America’s most haunted cities. This October 31 and throughout the month, uncover spooky tales and festive family adventures for all ages – all aligned to accommodate current restrictions and guidelines – during “Hauntober.”

CARSON CITY — As a result of COVID-19, V&T Railway Commission has announced that fan favorite, Polar Express, has been cancelled for the 2020 season. In its place, V&T Railway will host Santa’s Drive-Thru Village, a socially distanced holiday event, Dec. 11-13 and Dec. 18-24.

Placer County, a 1,400-square-mile destination in Northern California, is inviting responsible leisure travelers in accordance with the California Department of Public Health and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

Travelers are now permitted to safely enjoy the diverse geography encompassing a range of cities from Olympic Valley to Foresthill, and Auburn to Roseville this fall.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region. The American Cancer Society is hosting a poker run Saturday at Mills Park, and a free lacrosse clinic for kids ages 6-12 will be held at John L. Harvey Field. The Nevada Humane Society is virtually hosting its annual “Adopt a Duck” fundraiser for interested participants. Following the successful launch of V&T Railway's Carson City’s Carson Canyon Railbikes, the organization has announced a lineup of special event railbike tours for the remaining 2020 season. In addition to the standard Carson River Canyon tour, riders can expect extended hours, themed décor and added entertainment attractions.

CARSON CITY, Nev. — The Nevada Department of Transportation will add no parking signs to enhance traffic safety on a section of State Route 28 in southeastern Incline Village.

CARSON CITY — On the heels of an incredibly successful 2019 season and due to popular demand, V&T Railway has begun early ticket sale booking for the 2020 season. As with prior seasons, the 2020 season will include vintage steam train rides from Carson City to Virginia City, Toast of the Canyon wine and beer trains and the popular Polar Express in addition to other themed and special event trains.

Carson City is at the center of a legal dispute following its refusal to allow hemp to be grown on property in the Buzzys Ranch area in East Carson City. Tahoe Hemp is suing for $15 million in damages citing the city broke its agreement with the Jarrard Family Trust, which gives rights to the family to use the property for agricultural purposes.

The Board of Supervisors will review the Andersen Ranch Estates Tentative Map this Thursday, January 16th.  The special session starts at 5:30pm at the Sierra Room of the Community Center at 851 Williams Street, Carson City.

Today, the Mortimer & Mimi Levitt Foundation named Carson City, Nevada as one of 20 small to mid-sized towns and cities across America to win a Levitt AMP Grant Award of $25K in matching funds to present a free concert series at The Change Companies Stage. The Brewery Arts Center submitted Carson City’s Levitt AMP proposal.

Sierra Lutheran High School's Andreas Gilson (Junior) ran a personal best 5K in Rocklin, California of 17:55 against a loaded field at the Bella Vista Bronco Invitational on Saturday he finished 31st.

Junior Jacob Tack ran 20:16, good for 91st place, he was followed by Sophomore Aaron Waite who covered the scenic wooded course in 20:55 (105th), and Freshman Flynn Scheibe was 119th in 22:10. In the girls race three young Falcons flew through the rolling course in tight formation.

CARSON CITY — V&T Railway will bring its event-filled 2019 season to a close this weekend with a final 150th Anniversary train on Friday, Oct. 11, vintage steam trains on Saturday, Oct. 12 and Sunday, Oct. 13 and a Toast of the Canyon spirits train on Saturday, Oct. 12 following the steam train.
