When it comes to quenching our thirst for precipitation, something is better than nothing right? Well, a little something may be on the way, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.
Mild afternoon temperatures will remain warm through Monday but Tuesday brings a change with a chance of light valley rain and mountain snow showers Tuesday.

Though not striking in terms of bringing significant precipitation to the area, a low pressure system will move into the Carson City today, bringing a very slight chance for rain and snow showers to western Nevada and the Sierra through Monday, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.

UPDATE: While not packing a lot of moisture, a cold storm system is headed our way beginning late Monday, bringing gusty winds, cold temperatures, and the potential for light snow, according to the National Weather Service.

Snow could begin as early as 8 p.m. Monday night with the main window for snowfall being 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. 1 to 2 inches of snow is expected through the Reno and Carson City areas with 2 to 4 inches south into Minden and Gardnerville. 1 to 3 inches of snow is expected west of Highway 95 near Walker Lake.

A strong cold front will push through the Sierra and northwest Nevada Monday night into Tuesday with overnight lows in the single digits at night to Carson City and Lake Tahoe, according to the National Weather Service. Snow showers could develop along the front, but confidence among forecasters remains low.

Carson City will see a brief warmup Sunday with a high of 45 before temperatures drop below 40 and into the 20s for daytime highs and low teens and single digits at night through Friday.

It is shaping up to be a white Christmas in Northern Nevada and the Sierra. A strong cold front will move through Lake Tahoe and Carson City on Wednesday likely bringing wind, rain and snow to the region by Christmas morning, according to the National Weather Service. A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for the Sierra and much of Western Nevada.

National Weather Service forecasters said today there's a better chance of a weather system arriving Christmas Eve night that could bring snow to the valley floors by early Christmas morning.

A strong cold front will move through northern California and western Nevada. Lower elevation rain and snow is expected to break out on Christmas Eve, with any rain turning over quickly to snow as the cold front moves through overnight into Christmas morning, according to the weather service.

There is a chance Carson City and surrounding areas could see a white Christmas this year as a cold front tracks through the region, according to the National Weather Service.

Another weak system will bring another round of snow in the Sierra around Lake Tahoe and potential snow showers in Carson City through mid-day Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service. This will create the potential for slick roads over area passes as snow accumulates.

With Thursday's storm that left more than 15 inches of fresh snow above Lake Tahoe, Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort opened Friday for the 2014-15 winter season. As early season conditions still exist, the resort will operate limited terrain accessed by the Grandview Express and Easy Rider Express.

Carson City was largely spared, so far, by damaging winds that happened at Lake Tahoe, Carson Valley and Reno-Sparks earlier Thursday. Dispatch reports some downed power lines and tree limbs through late morning and the middle of the afternoon.
