Weather systems move into Carson City and Sierra bringing wind, rain and snow
A cold front pushing through the Sierra and northwest Nevada will bring strong and gusty winds to the Carson City region Friday night through Saturday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service. In the meantime, low pressure will bring a quick round of rain and snow showers to Lake Tahoe and Western Nevada Thursday night.
Gusts of 55 to 65 mph are possible along the Sierra Front with up to 75 mph in wind prone areas. A High Wind Watch is in effect for the Sierra, northeast California, and the Sierra Front in Nevada from 10 p.m. Friday through 4 p.m. Saturday.
Winds this strong have the potential to cause damage so make sure to secure any loose outdoor items. In addition, hazardous driving conditions are expected for high profile vehicles with possible travel restrictions along Highway 395.
Mountain snow is possible, though will likely only cause impacts across Sierra passes Saturday morning when snow levels lower. Be prepared for winter travel conditions and allow extra time to reach your destination.
