Arriving winter storm to bring several feet of snow to Sierra above Lake Tahoe
Multiple feet of snow in the higher elevations of the Sierra is possible with an upcoming winter storm, according to the National Weather Service. However there is uncertainty about elevation levels with the arriving weather system, and just how low the snow levels will drop.
The storm is expected to arrive late Wednesday into Thursday. Significant precipitation is expected. If it arrives as rain in Carson City and the lower valleys, we may get anywhere from a quarter-inch to more than an inch, according to the weather service. At Lake Tahoe, the mountains above lake level could see several feet. Go here for a statement from the weather service.
Travel impacts are anticipated with the system, especially over mountain passes. Below is a video produced by the National Weather Service in Reno about the coming storm.
