Here is the Carson City area road report for the week of Jan. 18-24, 2016: Utility work will continue Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with possible flagger controlled traffic at the following locations:

Carson City area weather: Sierra snow, valley rain through Tuesday

A series of wet winter storms will impact the Sierra and Carson City region this Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend through at least Tuesday with the potential of several feet of snow in the mountains and up to a half inch of rain in the valleys, according to the National Weather Service.

Carson City area weather: Gusty conditions expected tonight prompt Wind Advisory

Unsettled weather will continue to make its way into the Sierra and Carson City region with high winds moving into the area tonight, according to the National Weather Service. A Wind Advisory is in effect for the Carson City region from 7 tonight until 4 a.m. Friday.

Meanwhile, a Winter Weather Advisory for Lake Tahoe and the Sierra has been issued for this afternoon through Friday morning.

Carson City area weather: Rain, snow showers in valleys with heavier snow in the Sierra

Rain and possible snow showers are headed our way, with a weather system that should begin arriving overnight, according to the National Weather Service. For Carson City, forecasters are saying it will be more rain than snow in the capital city Wednesday and if there is snow, it will be less than a half inch.

Carson City weather: Storm systems likely won't produce much heavy precipitation

When is the next storm? It looks like a weak storm will brush to the north of the area Tuesday with little to no precipitation for the Sierra and western Nevada, according to the National Weather Service.

You know when it's a true Nevada wind storm when a trampoline flies

High winds around Carson City this Monday afternoon have caused trees to uproot, limbs to snap, fences to topple and a trampoline that blew into this backyard power pole in the 900 block of Chernus Drive.

Wind topples tree, blocks lane of traffic on North Carson Street

Gusting winds uprooted a tree on North Carson Street in Carson City late Monday morning, blocking one lane of traffic.
The large pine blew over at around 11:40 a.m., causing traffic to back up. The tree will have to be cut up and the road lane is expected to be blocked for at least an hour. Carson City Fire Department has responded and Carson City sheriff's deputies are redirecting traffic.

Here is the Carson City area road report for the week of Dec. 21-27, 2015: The Nevada Department of Transportation will continue work on the construction of an auxiliary lane on southbound I-580 from the Eastlake Boulevard interchange to the N. Carson Street off-ramp. There will be nightly lane closures from 7 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. beginning Sunday evening through Wednesday morning.

Carson City weather: Weekend rain and snow gives way to systems through Christmas week

A weather system will pass through the area late tonight and Saturday with mountain snow and a mix of rain and snow around Carson City, according to the National Weather Service.

The weather pattern will be relatively modest compared to the ones headed into the region next week that will bring rain, snow and the potential for a white Christmas around Carson City.

Carson City again woke up this morning to snowy, icy roads, causing headaches for motorists and an overall slow going on local roads, highways and I-580. Cheri Fletcher, transportation supervisor for the Carson City School District notes Carson City schools are open today with school buses running with chains on this morning so there may be delays.

Carson City Weather: Winter Storm Warning for the region

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for the Greater Lake Tahoe region. Remaining in effect until 10pm tonight, expect heavy snow through 7pm with accumulations reaching two to three inches per hour in some areas. The forecast is is calling for 12 to 20 inches of snow above 7000 feet, and 8-12 inches below (Carson City is listed at an elevation of 4,802 feet.

Carson City area weather: Another system to bring snow to Sierra and valley floor Sunday

Another winter storm is on the way bringing strong and gusty winds and a brief period of moderate to heavy snow on Sunday in the Sierra and then falling to the valley floor into Carson City by Sunday night.

Winds will begin to increase late Saturday night with the strongest winds anticipated Sunday morning and early afternoon, according to the National Weather Service, which which has posted a Wind Advisory and Winter Weather Advisory for the Carson City region and a Winter Storm Warning for the Sierra and Lake Tahoe.

Snow showers greet Carson City morning commuters

Carson City residents woke up to at least an inch or more of snow Friday morning, which made for slow going along local roads.

A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m. this morning for the Reno, Carson City, Carson Valley, Virginia City and Dayton areas.

Carson City Weather: Rain and snow by week's end

Monday and Tuesday is going to warm up a little bit with the mercury hitting 60 degrees by Wednesday.

Don’t get too excited for warmer temperatures though, as a storm system is expected to arrive by Thursday, bringing with it rain and wind for Carson City, and several feet of snow in the Sierra.

Expect highs temps to reach the low 40’s by Friday with our low temperature around 20 degrees, and with it a good chance at snow showers going into Saturday where we will greet another partly cloudy weather pattern.
