Carson City weather: First of several systems to arrive tonight with snow Tuesday
A moderate winter storm is forecast to impact the Sierra and western Nevada late Monday night through Tuesday, prompting a Winter Weather Advisory for the Lake Tahoe Basin. Snow is in the forecast for Carson City, with 2 to 4 inches expected, according to the National Weather Service.
Major travel impacts are likely along Highway 395 north of Bishop to Carson City, and possibly over the Sierra passes around Tahoe including I-80 and US-50. Periods of snow are possible in western Nevada including the Reno and Carson City and Fallon areas, however forecast confidence is not as high. Winds on the ridges and the high elevations of the Sierra will be strong.
A more active storm pattern will set up across the region this week, with periods of impact to travel, especially across the Sierra. At this time, the greatest impacts will be Tuesday and into the weekend as a couple of stronger storms bring more widespread and moderate snowfall potential.
