EPA proposes to add Nevada's Anaconda mine site in Lyon County to National Priorities List
Submitted by editor on Thu, 09/08/2016 - 4:25pmThe Environmental Protection Agency announced Thursday it is moving forward with the process to list a portion of the old Anaconda Copper Mine site in Lyon County to its National Priorities List. The announcement is the first step in a process to make the site eligible to receive federal funding for a long-term, permanent cleanup.

Exactly 150 years later to the day and time, the Grand Lodge of Nevada, Free and Accepted Masons will rededicate that cornerstone at what is now the Nevada State Museum.

Carson City Fire Chief: Arson likely responsible for fires at historic Foreman-Roberts House
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Mon, 08/29/2016 - 6:00amUPDATE 4:15PM From Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong: The Carson City Fire Department and Sheriff’s Office responded to two arson-related fires at the Foreman-Roberts House Museum over the weekend. The first fire was reported on Sunday morning at approximately 2:34 a.m., damaging primarily the east side of the structure. On Monday morning at approximately 4:29 a.m., another fire was reported, this time the origin site was located on the south side of the building. The two incidents have resulted in moderate damage to the building.

WNC offers driver education classes in Carson City

Teens age 15 and older can choose between Saturday sessions that begin on Sept. 10 and Oct. 15, or a daily session starting on Tuesday, Dec. 27.

Carson City arrests: Man jailed for felony domestic battery, allegedly chokes pregnant girlfriend

Carson City man jailed in 2015 murder of Newport Beach, Calif. philanthropist
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Fri, 08/12/2016 - 4:56amCarson City Sheriff's Office investigators assisted Newport Beach, Calif., detectives in last month's arrest of a Carson City man for his alleged involvement in the murder of an elderly southern California philanthropist.
Anthony Thomas Garcia, 56, was arrested July 28 by Newport Beach Police Department detectives in Carson City. He is awaiting extradition to California to face a charge of murder with enhancement for financial gain.
