Carson City arrests: Man jailed for felony domestic battery, allegedly chokes pregnant girlfriend

A 28-year-old Carson City man was arrested earlier this week on suspicion of felony domestic battery with strangulation in which the alleged victim is 11 weeks pregnant, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Jose Trinidad Nunez was arrested Sunday, 11:33 p.m. Carson City Fire Department and sheriff’s deputies responded to a residence in the 3300 block of South Carson Street at 10:27 p.m. The victim was evaluated by medics and taken to the hospital.

According to the arrest report, an officer went to the hospital to interview the victim after being dispatched to a residence.

The victim explained to the deputy that she and the suspect began arguing that morning after the couple had woken up. The victim said she has been having headaches and told the man she wasn’t feeling well, was tired, and attributed it to the pregnancy. The woman went to rest and a few minutes later the man asked her if she was going to go to work.

The woman said she told her boyfriend she would as soon as the headache went away. She said the two began to argue again where it turned physical in the living room with the suspect allegedly grabbing and hitting her. It escalated to where the man put her in a headlock, hit her again, in front of her 4-year-old child, the arrest report states.

The man pushed her into the bedroom and allegedly began to choke her to the point where she couldn’t breath and lost consciousness. When she regained consciousness and tried to get up, the woman told the deputy that the suspect kept kicking her down and calling her names.

When she told him that her stomach was cramping, the man stopped and was nice to her for the rest of the day, she told the deputy. The woman said she was scared to call 911 and wanted to wait until he went to work, the arrest report states.

Deputies went to the man’s place of work and he was taken into custody. At jail he was read his Miranda rights and agreed to speak. He told the officer he works and pays for everything and that it angers him when she doesn’t work or makes excuses not to work, the arrest report states. “This all started over a headache,” he told the officer. He admitted that he has anger issues and stated “that’s why I’m here" and “she knows how to push my buttons,” the arrest report states.

He said the two were talking in the living room and the woman walked back to the bedroom, and he stated “I don’t know what it was but I think I blacked out for some reason,” he said, adding that he doesn’t remember what happened after that.

The man was booked on suspicion of domestic battery with strangulation and is being held in Carson City Jail on $50,000 bail.
