Carson City sheriff’s crime log Sunday: Deputies make DUI and drug related arrests

Two Reno men were arrested Saturday on multiple misdemeanor charges after the driver of a vehicle was stopped for suspected DUI, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

According to the arrest report, deputies were called to a possible DUI driver in the area of Carson Street and Clearview. The reporting parting was a motorist who called police stating that a silver 2008 Cadillac sedan cut him off coming down Highway 50 west into Carson City. The reporting party stated the driver of the vehicle was speeding and weaving in and out of traffic.

An officer located the vehicle traveling northbound on I-580. The officer observed the vehicle cross the left fog line in the number 1 lane twice. The officer conducted a traffic stop at I-580 and Arrowhead. The deputy could smell a strong odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle that was occupied by two men, the 42-year-old driver and a 23-year-old passenger. The officer explained why he was stopped and asked the driver if he had been drinking. The driver said no, the arrest report states. The officer asked for a driver’s license and vehicle documents.

The man handed the officer expired insurance for the vehicle and an outdated DMV printout of an ID card. The officer asked the man for his license, which he could not produce.

Deputies conducted a warrant check on both men in the vehicle. The driver had two warrants issued for his arrest and a revoked license for driving under the influence. He had previously been convicted of DUI in March 2015 and January 2010.

The officer asked if he would participate in field sobriety tests. The man agreed. As the deputy was administering the tests, the other man got out of the car along the shoulder of the roadway and told the driver to refuse everything and “make them take you in,” the arrest report states.

The officer told the 23-year-old man to get back into the car. The man refused several times and was taken into custody. Officers found an open can of beer on the floor near his seat. During the field sobriety tests, the driver provided a sample of .225 and was arrested.

The driver was booked on suspicion of DUI second offense, driving on a revoked license, no valid insurance, violation of a suspended sentence, contempt of court and failure to maintain a single lane of traffic.
