I know it's hard to think about summer whilst scraping ice off your windshield, but the Community Discount Registration Event for Epic Rides at the Firkin and Fox will have you blissfully dreaming of bike rides in June. It's family fun at the Carson Library's Movie Night: bring the kids down for Finding Dory. Jazz it up with the Shipleys at Living the Good Life. As part of FoodMaxx’s entry into the Nevada marketplace with new stores in Carson City and Sparks, the grocery chain held an online sweepstakes, encouraging shoppers at both stores to register at FoodMaxx.com to receive email-only weekly specials. The contest ran from Nov. 16 through Dec. 27.

I believe I felt a collective sigh of relief when 2016 left and 2017 made its grand entrance. The new year is filled with so much hope, promise, and delight. The Nevada Department of Veterans Services will be sponsoring two FREE comprehensive training programs to assist those caring for aging veterans, including those living in eldercare communities.

The programs are called "Bravo Zulu: Achieving Excellence in Relationship-Centered Care." They're designed to give care partners of veterans a better understanding of military culture as well as the influence and impact of military service experiences on the healthcare needs of aging veterans.

Ride the Carson City Off-Road this summer at the second annual Epic Rides in Carson City. Pre-registration is underway, with full registration set to begin Jan. 1 and a special Carson City area community registration for local riders on Jan. 4, 2017.

A 68-year-old Carson City man was arrested Wednesday in the 2000 block of Bourgone Street for suspicion of domestic battery, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

A 46-year-old Reno woman was arrested Tuesday for multiple felony charges after allegedly using a stolen car in an attempt to buy a vehicle at a South Carson Street auto dealership, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Save Mart Supermarkets in Carson City will match in-store donations Friday to the Ron Wood Family Resource Center.

For the past month, Carson City shoppers have been able to donate to Ron Wood at checkout through Save Mart Companies' "Give.Share.CARE! Holiday Drive," said company spokeswoman Nanette Miranda.

A long line of shoppers waited outside the new FoodMaxx grocery store at 3325 Highway 50 East in Carson City Wednesday morning, hoping to qualify for one of 200 free bags filled with groceries to kick off the grand opening celebration of the supermarket chain's 54th store.

If you need some bowl-full-of-jelly belly laughs, then the Super Santa Extravaganza, featuring some of the area’s funniest stand-up comics, is for you. You’ll find that in the Brewery Arts Center Black Box Theater. For a good dose of Christmas lights, head to the Johnson Lane area. Off Stephanie Lane, on Chaparral Court, is a spectacular display known as Nevada Christmas.

Don’t think that Sundays are just for rest, there is plenty to coax you out of your pajamas today. Take a trip with Santa at the Nevada Railroad Museum. Search for treasures and do your Christmas shopping at Fuji Park today, one of the multiple craft shows in town. Enjoy a free concert at the Community Center courtesy of the Capital City Community Band. Dayton is celebrating a small town Christmas tonight; bust out your best ugly sweater and join the fun. Public Safety agencies in Carson City have been awarded more than $47,000 combined in life-saving equipment grants through the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation, a press release said.

Curiosity drives Jill Brugler artistically, and she hopes “Dirty Diapers/Rabbit Ears” will attract the curious to the Western Nevada College’s Main Gallery to see her clay and ceramic exhibit.

“Dirty Diapers/Rabbit Ears” is opening Wednesday, Nov. 30 in Carson City and the exhibit will be shown through Friday, Feb. 3.
