We know better than trying to predict springtime weather in the Sierra foothills. A new wave of showers is expected Monday, but it could show up whenever it likes. Rain or shine, Earth Day in Reno’s Idlewild Park is always fun and informative. See Marlon Brando on the big screen as Galaxy Theater offers two showings of ‘On the Waterfront.’ The Carson City Symphony welcomes guest soloist, Albert Lee, to the stage during today’s Spring Fling Concert.

Boys and Girls Clubs of Western Nevada to host Kick-Off to Summer event

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada hosts its annual Kick-Off to Summer event at the Carson City Club House located at 1870 Russell Way in Carson City from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 30.

The event includes food, games, prizes and more, along with mandatory orientation sessions for parents whose children will be registered to attend the club throughout the summer and the 2016-17 school year.

New community baseball league starts in Carson City

The San Francisco Giants have come to Carson City. A new youth community baseball program with the backing of a Major League Baseball club opened for sign-ups earlier this month in the Nevada state capital.

The Junior Giants community league, run by the Carson City Parks and Recreation Department, is sponsored by the San Francisco Giants Community Fund, a charitable outreach of the professional sports franchise.

Carson City symposium to focus on finer points of social media success

UNR's Nevada Seismological Lab earthquake forum to feature global and regional experts

International experts will join with local seismologists in a public forum this month to inform the region on the dangers and probabilities of devastating earthquakes, and how to recover economically as a region.

Contrary to the general public perception, the California-Nevada border region is at risk for large, magnitude 7-plus earthquakes striking the greater Reno-Tahoe region. In a magnitude 6 earthquake, according to FEMA estimates, the region could suffer billions of dollars in damage: $1.9 billion in the Reno/Sparks area and $590 million in the Stateline area.

Carson City sheriff’s arrests: Jail inmates booked on conspiracy charges

An inmate at Carson City Jail and a suspect in a burglary case were each booked on gross misdemeanor charges of conspiracy to commit burglary after they allegedly plotted to burglarize a Menlo Drive residence, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Coding and 3-D modeling camp offered Tuesday and Thursday at Carson City Library

Students can learn coding and 3-D modeling at a camp offered at the Carson City Library over spring break next week. Sixth- through eighth-graders can attend the Tuesday camp while a camp for fourth- and fifth-graders will be held Thursday. Both camps will run 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the Digitorium. Breakfast and lunch will be provided both days.

Cooperative Extension offers youth spring break babysitting class
