Summer? Winter? Flip a coin. I could’ve guessed the rain was coming, my lilacs just started to bloom. Don’t let your parade get rained out though, downtown Carson will march right through this wet stuff. The early Spring Farmers Market debuts today behind Due Sorella at Nevada and Musser Streets. Grab the kids and enjoy today’s open house with free admission at the Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada. Stick around for the monthly Downtown Business Association wine walk and find something for Mothers’ Day at one of our wonderful local shops.

Western Nevada College Motorcycle Rider Course

Registration is now open for the 2017 Motorcycle Rider Course classes. WNC uses the Motorcycle Safety Foundation curriculum for the Basic Rider Course (BRC) - $160, Basic Rider Course II - $85 and the Advanced Rider Course (ARC) $85.

BRC -Learn how to ride a motorcycle in 2 1/2 days and earn your MSF completion card for a Class M endorsement from Nevada DMV.

Today we celebrate the Arts in Nevada at the Legislature and salute the painters, potters, makers, sculptors, singers, dancers, actors, writers, poets, and musicians that capture all that is Nevada in their work.

Sunday, April 30: Things to do around Carson City and beyond

Take advantage of the spring sunshine and seize the day. Virginia City roars with the sound of their annual Grand Prix. Beer and brats aren’t usually associated with ballet, but the Sierra Nevada Ballet makes the annual event at the Brewery Arts Center a great time for all. The Earth Spirit Faire wraps up its weekend of wellness at the Community Center. Head to Reno for a Cinco De Mayo Celebration at the Grand Sierra that features musicians, cuisine, and carnival rides.

Hold on to your hat, the weekend is here. If it’s a cowboy hat, head over to Genoa for their annual Cowboy Festival. Plenty of free things to see, hear, and experience await. The annual Spring Earth Spirit Faire lets you celebrate Mother Earth with workshops, holistic practitioners, great vendors, and a raffle. It benefits the Heart to Heart School and Advocates to End Domestic Violence so it’s always worth checking out. You’ll have to keep reading for all of your choices, the spring thaw brings out the best this valley has to offer.

It’s Red vs. Blue in the Morse Burley Gym at Carson High School. The traditional basketball game between Democrat and Republican legislators also raises money for local seniors.

Mark Twain Elementary to host My School Color Run this Saturday at Mills Park

Mark Twain Elementary School will host its community wide My School Color Run this Saturday, April 22, 10 a.m. at Mills Park in Carson City.

Participants are encouraged to sign in early beginning at 9 a.m. The two mile event, a fundraiser for the school, is designed as all ages walk, jog or run and is for all fitness abilities.

During the event, participants pass through designated color zones as part of an enhanced spring time bounty of full on colorful experiences. This is the second annual event.

Partnership Carson City is hosting a Diabetes Self-Management Class developed by Stanford University. Class meets for two and a half hours on Fridays, for six weeks. The first class is on May 19 and meets from 9:45 to 12:30 pm at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 1201 N. Saliman Rd., Carson City. The class covers monitoring blood sugar; coping with anger, fear and frustration; communication with health care professionals, family, and friends; use of medications; relaxation techniques; healthy eating; physical activity and more.

Carson City water main flushing continues this week, discoloration possible in work areas

Carson City’s annual main flushing program is continuing this week, and is expected be completed next week. Flushing operations will take place Tuesday through Thursday of this week in the Stanton Park area north of Butti Way, south of Highway 50, east of the freeway and west of Fairview Drive.

A baseball star at Reed High School in Sparks, EJ Maldonado went on to play at Southern Idaho College. After graduation, he went on to the University of Nevada, Reno then into a career as the coordinator for the Western Regional Specialty Courts.

Carson City arrests: Woman with prison escape warrant jailed early Thursday

A 44-year-old Carson City woman was arrested early Thursday morning for a felony escaped prisoner warrant issued through the Nevada Department of Corrections, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Carson City arrests: Man jailed for burglary after allegedly breaking into Tractor Supply

A 42-year-old man was arrested early Tuesday morning for felony suspicion of attempted burglary and other charges after he was located at Tractor Supply Company on East William Street, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Relay For Life 1st Annual Golf Tournament

Relay For Life of Carson City - Douglas County will hold it's 1st Annual Golf Tournament on June 24th at Empire Ranch Golf Course. It will be a 4 person best ball scramble and all proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society. The day will include green fees, cart, lunch, awards, raffle, golfer shirt and goody bag.
