Just Brew It offers craft beer, brewing supplies in Carson City
Trevor and Tessa Rotoli have been operating Just Brew It, Carson City’s local brewing supply store, since 2010.
The husband and wife team have expanded the business over the years with more space, product, and added sales of craft beer and a four-tap bar.
The focus of the business is still on home-brew ingredients, equipment, and recipes. But the addition of small batch and hard-to-find beers has been welcomed by Carson City beer drinkers with a refined palate.
Customers can purchase the craft beer in six-packs, or they can pick and choose single bottles from the selection to fill a custom six-pack.
Customers can also bring their own clean growler, or purchase one at the store to bring home the beer-on-tap.
“We look for limited availability and seasonal or specialty beers,” Trevor said. “Beers that are hard to find and that you won’t see elsewhere."
Trevor began brewing in 1999 as a hobby.
After completing his service in the U.S. Army, he got back to it in 2004.
“I got sick of going to Reno for ingredients,” he said. “I had the idea in December (2009) and we were open in March.”
Just Brew It sells ready-to-brew kits and recipes containing the equipment or ingredients for making beer, wine, cider, cheese, and old fashioned soda.
The recipes, ingredients, and tools needed to transform a garage into a home brewing empire fill the store.
“This is always the first place I check,” said home brewer Ethan Fredsty. “They're local, and I like to support local businesses.”
Trevor reminded Ethan of a few extra items he might need while studying the recipe at the register.
“I’ve gotten to know Trevor and I trust his expertise,” Fredsty said as Trevor gathered the supplies.
“I’ve almost never made the same recipe twice,” Trevor said. “I’m always asking what can make that recipe better.”
A large room in the back of the store features large barrels full of bulk grains. With the large variety of grains, brewers need not compromise a recipe.
“We have a lot of new varieties that are new to the brew scene,” he said. “Customers get a lower cost.”
Trevor’s wife, Tessa, helps run Just Brew It along with her own custom clothing business, Bustles and Bloomers Sewing.
Her custom garments are federally (CPSC) compliant and she said she prefers to use patterns and fabrics made by other small businesses.
“The sewing that I did for my family this Christmas supported 17 other small businesses throughout the U.S. that are all ran by women,” she said.
Just Brew It hosts a local home-brewing club called The 395 Brewers Club. The group meets monthly to talk craft, and share feedback on each other's brews.
They also join in on competitions, and earned a few awards last year according to Trevor.
Just Brew It hosts its own annual home-brew competition in the spring with a panel of certified judges. Home brewers can visit the store to sign up or learn more.
Just Brew It is open Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays 11 a.m.to 5 p.m.
A five percent military discount is offered, as well as a five percent discount for seniors on Wednesdays.
Frequent brewers can hold a punch card for a $20 discount after every ten recipe purchases.
