I’m usually a lover of sunny days, but right now I say bring on the rain. The moisture is a welcome help to our heroic firefighters in Lake Tahoe and Washoe Valley. Because of the wet weather and the recent fires, some activities have been postponed: most notably the Advocates to End Domestic Violence’s Annual Light After Dark Run. There are still plenty of things to occupy your time, but the weather may force more cancellations.

United Federal Credit Union will celebrate the opening of its second branch in Carson City with a week full of activities for members and the general public, including a daily treasure hunt at nearby locations with clues provided via social media.

Partnership Carson City's fall prescription drug roundups will be held Saturday, Oct. 22, in Carson City from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. with three drop-off locations. Bring your used and expired prescription drugs to a drop off location for proper disposal to protect the community and water supply.

Big Sam's Funky Nation is headed to Crystal Bay for a free concert in the Crystal Bay Casino's Crown Room on Friday, Oct. 14 beginning at 10 p.m.

Chef Charlie Abowd was named finalist for Restaurateur of the Year by the Nevada Restaurant Association Thursday at the annual Culinary Excellence Awards Gala in Las Vegas.

Cooperative Extension will host a 4-H Open House and Fun Day from 8:30am to 6pm Wednesday. You may come-and-go throughout the day to stop by our office and learn about 4-H.

The philosophy of 4-H is to strengthen the mental, physical, moral and social development of boys and girls. The main objective is the personal development of youth through participation in projects, events, and other wholesome activities.

The Capital City Arts Initiative [CCAI] presents its exhibition, Pocket Ziggurat, by artist Chelsea Pegram at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery. CCAI will host a reception for the artist on Friday, October 7, 5-7pm; Pegram will give a talk about her work at 5:30pm. The exhibit will be in the gallery from October 7, 2016 - January 19, 2017.
