Pioneer High School Embraces Technology in the Classroom
In the age of a digital society, Pioneer High School in Carson City is encouraging teachers and students to embrace technology in the classroom. In order to provide students with an opportunity to become digital citizens, each student at Pioneer is provided a Chromebook upon enrollment.
The student Chromebooks are utilized in many different ways, including digital instruction, remediation, and research to name just a few.
Teachers and students are provided platforms for sharing information by using applications such as Google Classroom and Edmodo. The days of having to return to school after an absence to ask for make-up work have since departed. Students can now access these documents wherever there is an Internet connection.
In addition to providing safe platforms for student and teacher interactions, technology is also being utilized to share grades and attendance information with parents and students. The state of Nevada has implemented Infinite Campus as its new data management system. Infinite Campus can be accessed via student Chromebooks, personal computers, and even a smartphone applications.
The ability to access grades and attendance on a regular basis provides parents and students with real-time feedback, which can be used to formulate a plan for academic success. In addition to academic success, Pioneer High School provides students with a modern technology education that will prepare students for technology use in higher education and/or the workplace.
