About Rick Shea and the Good Intentions:

Rick Shea
"An incredible and intelligent musician and songwriter with an angelic voice that I'd kill for" - Dave Alvin

Rick Shea cut his teeth in the bars and honky-tonks of San Bernardino where he grew up. He's since gone on to build a solid career for himself as a solo artist, singer, guitarist and songwriter. Shea is equally at home with an acoustic guitar and a set of ballads and stories, or with his worn old Telecaster burning through a set of his own songs and a few honky-tonk standards.

With nine critically acclaimed albums he’s performed all over Southern California, the West Coast and across the country and in Europe. Rick spent several years playing in dear friend Dave Alvin’s band (the Guilty Men) as well as complimenting many other well-known artists as a sideman or band member.

"Shea is to interior California what Joe Ely is to west Texas: his music evokes deep Kern, San Bernardino and Riverside counties the way Ely nailed down Laredo - two pinches of old Mexico, a blast of exhaust from the bossman's new Suburban and a baseline of working-stiff desperation." **** four stars - Jackson Griffith

"Shea’s storytelling, songwriting and performing skills place him in the tradition alongside the finest California roots singer-songwriters of the last 40 years including Dave Alvin, Tom Russell and John Stewart."
- Terry Roland, No Depression

"A hauntingly nostalgic vocalist, imperative guitarist and literate, detail rich songwriter, do yourself a favor" - Sing OutMagazine

The Good Intentions
“Traditional country, Americana, call it what you will…it’s nigh on musical perfection.” — (Alan Cackett)

The Good Intentions are husband and wife duo R Peter Davies and Gabrielle Monk. Based in Liverpool, they have emerged over the last few years as part of the new wave of UK alt-country acts. Fusing old-time country with a traditional British sensitivity, they have developed their own singular voice and sound. In 2011, they were voted Best Americana Band at the British Country Music Awards.

Their songs are rooted in the timeless music carried to America by the emigrants from the British Isles, most of whom departed from the very port where Peter and Gabrielle live. The Good Intentions are bringing that music home.

Playing mostly original compositions with mainly acoustic instruments, and singing close harmonies, they are often complemented on record and on stage by additional occasional band members. They have so far released three albums, have toured the UK, the US, and on the Continent, and have guested on the legendary Bob Harris Country show on BBC Radio.

“These songs are not just timeless, they are true classics, right up there with the best of the Louvins, the Delmores, the Blue Sky Boys, and early Everlys.” — (Maverick)

About the Silver City School House:
The growing Comstock community of Silver City built a one room schoolhouse in 1867. Soon a south wing was added, making room for as many as 166 students. The building continued in use as a school for almost a century. In 1957 the town stopped using the building as a school. It was soon turned into a community center and housed the Silver City Volunteer Fire Department. Following construction of a new fire station in 1991, the building was renovated for exclusive use as a community center.

The schoolhouse was destroyed by fire in 2004, and in 2007 the Silver City Community Center was rebuilt in the same architectural style as the old schoolhouse, using many materials salvaged from the original structure. Today, managed by the Silver City Historic Preservation Society, the Silver City School House is the center of community activity in town. It hosts town meetings, soup socials, holiday gatherings, a thriving kid’s summer camp, sock hops, art shows and now concerts.

Father and daughter team, Robert Elston (Yellow Truck Productions) and Evangeline Elston (Evangeline Presents), co-producers of the event, share a passion for live music and performing arts. Robert is an archeologist and musician and he and his wife Cashion and their family have lived in Silver City for nearly fifty years and were part of the wellspring of intellectuals, musicians and artists that came to the area in the 60s and stayed to build their lives in the town of Silver City. Evangeline grew up in Silver City and is a music promoter and artist manager and agent who recently moved back to the area. She runs a small agency with a stable of nationally touring artists and she also directs the Valhalla Art, Music & Theatre Festival at Lake Tahoe.

They share a vision to develop a thriving live music and performing arts scene in Silver City. The Silver City Historic Preservation Society, which manages the Silver City School House Community Center and Silver City Arts, a group of local artists who seek to encourage the arts, build community, and share the unique beauty of Silver City, will assist with the production of the event.
