Carson City Open Space in partnership with the Mile High Jazz Band Association will host four bands, food trucks, and burros to pet at Silver Saddle Ranch located at 4901 Carson River Road.

Adult Trivia Night tonight at the Carson City Library

Tonight, Thursday Aug. 4 beginning at 6 p.m. Geeks Who Drink will host Trivia Night at the Carson City Library courtesy of the Friends of the Carson City Library. The event is open to everyone 21 and older who bring their ID. Non-alcoholic drinks will be provided courtesy of the Library. More may be won as the night progresses!

Business Spotlight: New mercantile spreads the joy of soap-making

Retirement was the green light for Dayton resident Michelle O'Brien to start working again.

Once she retired after 20 years of state service with the Nevada Division of Welfare and Supportive Services, O'Brien decided she would finally have the time to devote to soap-making, a hobby that has grown into a creative endeavor.

Carson City Salvation Army launches annual backpack and school supply drive

The Salvation Army is collecting backpacks and school supplies for disadvantaged children through August 17. Children from Carson City, Douglas County and Lyon County will receive backpacks and school supplies as needed. The Salvation Army will have a distribution of the back packs and a large portion of the back packs collected will be given directly to the School Districts for distribution to children in transition.

All summer long, Thursday nights have been known for the Silver Dollar Classic Car meet-ups with upwards of 80 vehicles showing off their chrome and fuzzy dice at various venues throughout the valley. This Thursday’s cruise night kicks off a weekend of nostalgic car fun. Head to the Plaza Events Center at 5 p.m. for the annual Cruise Night Show and Shine, Music and Spirits and hold onto your bobby sox.

I really hope I’m not required to choose a favorite event. I would be hard pressed to choose between the Nevada Day Parade and the annual Taste of Downtown. Luckily, I can adore them both, and for much the same reason. They are a celebration of community, of Carson City, of our historic downtown and all that it has to offer. In addition to 'The Taste', the Brewery Arts Center goes country with the Southern Drawl Band on its outdoor stage, and Madam Curry leads another downtown Ghost Walk. Recently, one of our directors was travelling and saw a fun billboard (on the east coast, not local) advertising super heroes. It gave her an idea. She came back to me and we began to brainstorm. Super heroes can be from any walk of life, have any personality, and be any age.

It’s kitten season and Catmandu would like to remind cat owners to please be responsible and spay or neuter your pets. There are already far more cats and kittens than homes for them; and the babies just keep coming.

With the Pokemon Go app exploding in popularity among teens and adults across the country, Carson City dispatch has received numerous calls of "suspicious people" who have turned out to be game players, walking around empty buildings in the middle of the day and night.

United Blood Services Nevada region in critical need of donors

United Blood Services Nevada Region says it has an unprecedented critical need for blood of all types. Current forecasting projects a 4,700 whole blood pints shortfall in July and greater shortfalls throughout the summer.
