Senator Square: Holiday concerts ahead as Carson High choir students earn recognition
The Instrumental Music Department, Bands and Orchestra, is having its annual Winter Holiday Concert on Wednesday, Dec. 10, 7 p.m. at the Carson City Community Center. Donations are welcome. Meanwhile, Carson High School has had a number of their singing Senators recognized for their vocal talents already this year.
Two outstanding members of the Concert Choir and Chamber Choir were chosen by audition to be members of the American Choral Directors Association National Honor Choirs. Senior Michael Irvin will be performing as a member of the Bass section in the Senior High School Mixed Honor Choir and Freshman Wesley Sonnemaker will be performing Tenor in the Junior High School Men’s Choir. These ensembles will perform in Salt Lake City in February at the National Convention of the ACDA.
The Carson High School Choral Department will also be very well represented in this year's Northern Zone Nevada Music Educators Association High School Honor Choir. A record 47 students from CHS choral and musical theater ensembles were selected by audition for this honor group.
Four of our CHS students received the special recognition of having the highest or second highest scores in their sections and will serve as Section Leaders and Assistant Section Leaders. The Bass Section Leader is Tyler Torres, the Assistant Bass Section Leader is Spencer Bean, the Tenor Section Leader is Wesley Sonnemaker, and the Alto Assistant Section Leader is Katasha DeGraw.
The NZNMEA High School Honor Choir will perform at 7 p.m. on Feb. 13 at Churchill County High School. The 47 Carson HS members of the NZNMEA High School Honor Choir are: Emma Baglin, Jackson Baker, Summer Barth, Courtney Baxter, Spencer Bean, Anastasia Bevins, Robert Bowman, Austin Burmley, Kat Byington, Destanee Cachucha, Daniel Cihigoyenetche, Shelby Darney, Katasha DeGraw, Josh Elder, Michael Ferrigno, Fritz Filson, Abby Gould, Seth Hinkel, William Hoffecker, Michael Irvin, Rylan Kane, Ariel Kleidosty, Sharon Knight, Taylor Koop, Gabi Kortemeier, Heather LaMotte, Brent Lauderbaugh, Delany Lauderbaugh, Caitlyn Lee, Eilse McLaren, Paul McCorkle, Keith Miller, Carlos Montejano, Josiah Mouritsen, Kayleigh Remington, Diana Rosales, Wesley Sonnemaker, Ali Sorensen, Stanley Unruh, Lyric Untereiner, Topher Verhagen, Brock Wazny, Sara White, Isaiah Williams, Preston Williams, and Henry Wilson.
All of the ensembles in the choral department will be performing Holiday Concerts during the week before the CCSD Winter Break. These performances take place at the Carson City Community Center at 7 p.m. Admission for these concerts is a suggested donation of $4 per person or four cans of food.
Each year the collected canned goods are donated to the Ron Wood Family Resource Center here in Carson City. The Musical Theater Concert will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 16 and the Choral Ensemble Concert on Wednesday, December 17th. This year the CHS Choral Department continues the Madrigal Dinner tradition! On Feb. 14, in honor of Valentine's Day, we will be presenting a Royal Dinner and Silent Auction complete with ensemble performances and a Medieval Style Turkey Leg Dinner prepared by the CHS Culinary Arts.
The dinner and show take place on campus in Senator Square and will begin with an auction preview at 5:30pm.
