Christmas Fair at Carson City Senior Center happening this Wednesday and Thursday

First off we want to express our deepest best wishes and thanks to Danielle Cook, who was Carson Now’s calendar editor for the past four years. Danielle has moved to the Bay Area, leaving us some really big shoes to fill.

TAHOE NATIONAL FOREST, Calif. — Firefighters battling the North Fire that started late Monday afternoon in the Tahoe National Forest 40 miles west of Lake Tahoe are gearing up for a full attack Tuesday morning with more strike teams, hand crews, helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft, including a large tanker.

The Reno Aces finished their season in a game typical of most since the All-Star break: Pitcher Taylor Clarke was outstanding, shortstop Ildemaro Vargas received a standing ovation and the Aces were victorious.

The Aces defeated the Albuquerque Isotopes 8-3 at Greater Nevada Field, competing their eighth winning season in 10 years in the Biggest Little City. Reno finished with a 72-68 record, going 30-20 since the All-Star break. The Aces averaged more than 5,000 fans a game, and 4,186 turned out on a warm, sunny Monday Labor Day.

General Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2018. Early voting will be open at the Carson City Courthouse Oct. 20 through Nov. 2.

UPDATE 12:47PM: According to KTVN Channel 2, authorities say one person is confirmed dead after a small recreational aircraft crash that sparked the 80-acre Slide Fire. The FAA and NTSB are investigating.

The Slide Fire that began Sunday afternoon north of Carson City on Slide Mountain following a crash involving an aircraft is now 80 acres and 10 percent contained, the U.S. Forest Service reported Monday morning.

CARSON CITY — The Nevada State Board of Education on Thursday approved a regulation to require computer science be included in the Computer Education and Technology course required for graduation from high school.

With daily news reports of gang shootouts and knifings in cities all across America, I thought it would be good time to update our community on where Carson City stands when it comes to dealing with local gang issues. One person died early Sunday morning in a two vehicle crash involving a motorist driving the wrong way westbound in the eastbound lane on Interstate 80 at Patrick between Sparks and USA Parkway, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

UPDATE: 01:30PM: According to Carson City Dispatch, the smoke seen coming from the apartment was from a pot left on the stove. There was no fire.
