Carson City area weather: Smoke from wildfire, thunderstorms possible Tuesday
Smoke from California wildfires and a few thunderstorms are possible Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon and early evening, mainly in the Sierra into portions of the western Nevada Sierra front, according to the National Weather Service.
Some showers and thunderstorm development looks to be across the Sierra in Mono and Alpine counties but some isolated development remains possible through the Tahoe Basin, NWS forecasters say.
Development is also possible across portions of western Nevada from the Pine Nut mountains in Douglas County southward into Lyon and Mineral counties.
Storms could produce very localized areas of heavy rain, gusty and erratic winds, and small hail, forecasters advise. Winds will be light for the next few days with some increase in winds later in the week and into next weekend.
Weak west flow Tuesday may also transport areas of smoke and haze from California wildfires across the Sierra and western Nevada. As of Tuesday morning, air quality in Carson City was in the moderate range and air quality in Carson Valley, specifically the Gardnerville area, was in the good range, according to airnow.gov.
That could change due to the wildfire situation in the Tahoe National Forest.
Above average temperatures will continue Tuesday with lower 90s again expected for western Nevada valleys and lower to mid 80s for Sierra valleys.
For Carson City, Carson Valley and Dayton areas, Tuesday's high temperature is forecasted to be around 90, with widespread haze before 1 p.m. Wednesday and Thursdays high temperatures are expected to be in the upper 80s.
