Carson City deputies make arrests for obstructing, giving false name and warrants

A 71-year-old Mound House man was arrested late Monday for misdemeanor obstructing a police officer, driving with expired registration and basic speeding, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said.

According to the arrest report the driver was stopped after his vehicle was confirmed by radar traveling 69 mph in a 55 mph zone.

The driver exited his vehicle at the time of the stop and began to yell at the deputy and act aggressive, refusing to listen to commands that were ordered that he get back into the vehicle. The man continued refused to listen and would not get back in the vehicle after several commands. He was handcuffed after a brief scuffle with the deputy and taken to jail. Bail: $641.

In other arrests:
— A 35-year-old Carson City man was arrested early Tuesday morning at William and State streets for a failure to appear warrant issued July 30, 2018 by Nevada Highway Patrol and two counts possession of drug paraphernalia for having methamphetamine pipes in his socks. Bail: $2,684.

— A 36-year-old woman, Cherish Bishop, was arrested Monday at Walmart in the 3200 block of Market Street for petit larceny and was held by parole and probation for felony probation violation. Bail: $352 for the petit larceny charge and a no bail hold for the parole and probation violation.

— A 19-year-old Carson City man as arrested Saturday for felony firearm possession and four misdemeanors: possession of paraphernalia, possession of marijuana and two warrants.

William Thomas Liggett was taken into custody at 10:07 a.m. in the 600 block of East William Street. According to the arrest report, deputies were called to the parking lot of Bank of America regarding a suspicious vehicle parked in the parking lot.

The car was observed as looking like a security vehicle. The officer ran the plates on the vehicle, which came back to Liggett, who had two outstanding warrants for his arrest. Liggett was located sleeping in the rear of the car.

A deputy could smell an odor of marijuana and observed a glass pipe on the rear window ledge. The man provided identification, which showed he was not of legal age to possess marijuana. A jar of marijuana and a pipe were found on the floor of the vehicle.

He was asked why he was sleeping in the parking lot. The man told the deputy he is currently homeless and living in his car. He was asked for identification. The man provided the deputy with a license.

The deputy asked the man if he had any weapons. The man said he had a handgun in the rear seat where he was sleeping. The man was detained. Two misdemeanor warrants were confirmed and he was arrested. Bail: $20,000.

— A 48-year-old Carson City woman, Tara Brooks Goff, was arrested for allegedly using another person’s identification to avoid prosecution, a felony and two misdemeanor court warrants.

According to the arrest report, a deputy was dispatched to a motel in the 1900 block of North Carson Street in reference to four unwanted subjects who had been asked to leave by staff.

One woman identified herself with what turned out to be the name of a relative. Goff told the deputy she used the name of the person because she thought she had a warrant for her arrest.

She had two warrants, one out of Carson City Justice Court dated August 6, 2018 and the other out of East Fork Township Justice Court in Douglas County dated August 16, 2018. Bail: $11,500.
