Today the Carson City Soroptimist meet to talk about the McKinney-Vento program, and tonight the Carson City School District will hold a public meeting asking the community to weigh in on the district's strategic plan. Plus there's a candidate meet and greet, art showings, music and more.

— Carson City Soroptimist to feature McKinney-Vento program coordinator. Carson City Soroptimist will feature a presentation by Peggy Sweetland of the Carson City School District during its Program Meeting, Wednesday, Sept. 26, from noon until 1 p.m. at Glen Eagles Restaurant. This is a meeting reminder for those who have reserved at spot.
— Carson City School District asks community to weigh in tonight on strategic plan, 6 p.m. The Carson City School District is needing local community members to attend the quarterly Community Professional Learning Community meeting tonight, Wednesday, Sept. 26, 6 p.m., inside the Carson High School Library. Tonight the group will listen to a presentation from “Fund Our Future,” an organization aimed at challenging the existing mechanism for funding schools.
— Justice of the Peace candidate meet and greet, 6 to 7:30 p.m. There will be a meet and greet today for Carson City Justice of the Peace Department 2 candidate Kristin Luis. The event will be at 316 Crystal Water Way, Carson City. Beverages and appetizers will be served.
— Wine and Dine Watercolor Class, 6 to 7:30 p.m. Black Bear Diner, 900 S. Carson St. Students get a reminder text each week. Drop in basis - no monthly commitment necessary. On rare occasions we meet elsewhere, students will be notified. To sign up, get a supply list or ask questions email Dana at tfa.create@gmail.com.
— Mindfulness and Meditation Class Series, 6:30 p.m. This 5-week class will introduce attendees to the practice of sitting, walking, and eating meditation, and teach participants how to bring mindfulness to everyday life. Core Buddhist concepts will also be explored. Some classes will include mindful movement. Between them teachers Kathy Schwerin and Angela Sullivan have almost 100 years of meditation and yoga experience. They have been teaching one thing or another since they were children and are delighted to share the practices and benefits of mindfulness and meditation. There is no charge; donations gratefully accepted. Classes are held from 6:30-8pm at Unity of the Sierra, 1933 California Street, Carson City. — Daily through September, Muscle Powered is holding a membership drive to recruit new members. All new and renewing members in the month of September will be entered in a drawing to win a Gregory Hiking Day Pack.
Muscle Powered works to make Carson City healthier for all citizens and safer and more accessible for bicycling and walking through education and advocacy, the promotion of bicycle and pedestrian friendly infrastructure, and developing and maintaining recreational trails throughout the city. Muscle Powered is also responsible for organized weekly walks, hikes and bike rides, on and off road, throughout Carson City. Go here to learn more and sign up.
— Carson City Art Gallery & Pottery Mid-Month Artist Reception: Roger Freeman, 11 to 5:30 p.m. Carson City Art Gallery’s Artist of the Month for September is Roger Freeman, a multi medium artist living and working in the Carson City area. During his reception you will be able to meet him and talk to him about his wonderful work. 110 S. Curry St. Carson City.
— Student Art Exhibition: The Wind Calls, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Capital City Arts Initiative (CCAI) announces it’s exhibition, The Wind Calls featuring nine University of Nevada, Reno, students’ work. The free exhibition is available to the public through October 9, 2018, Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – noon and 1:00 – 4:00 pm. It is held at the BRIC, 108 E Proctor St., Carson City. The Wind Calls includes work by Mahedi Anjuman, Nicki Bracco, Mark Combs, Teal Francis, Hannah Huntley, Gwaylon Leaf, Frances Melhop, Ally Messer, and Carla Miller. The artists used a wide variety of art media including mixed media, ceramics, sculpture, painting, printmaking, and photography to make their art and comments on contemporary life and society.
— The Capital City Arts Initiative, also known as CCAI, presents its exhibition, "Jenny Raven: The Creative Growth Years 1979 - 1984" with artwork by artist Jenny Raven in the city’s Community Center Sierra Room, 851 E William Street, Carson City. The exhibition is available to the public through October 18, 2018. The Sierra Room is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
— Visual Oasis: Works from Creative Growth, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Capital City Arts Initiative presents “Visual Oasis: Works from Creative Growth" at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery in Carson City. The exhibition, with art by 17 artists, will be in the gallery Monday through Friday until Sept. 27, 2018. The Courthouse is located at 885 E Musser Street, Carson City. The gallery is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
— Live Music at Glen Eagle Restaurant, Live Music Wednesday starting at 6:30 and continuing until 10 p.m. 3700 N. Carson St., Carson City.
