Nevada Housing Division rental housing locator website gets new look, better search tools

The Nevada Housing Division will celebrate the fifth year of its rental housing locator at a relaunch party to introduce a new look and easier navigation of the NVHousingSearch.org website. The event will be held Thursday, Sept. 26 at the NHD office located at 1830 College Parkway, Suite 200 in Carson City beginning at 11 a.m.

The vendor who created the site, Emphasys Software will have a representative on hand to demonstrate the enhanced site and answer questions, said Steve Aichroth, NHD’s administrator. The demonstration will also be broadcast live on NHD’s Facebook page.

The locator was first launched September 16, 2014 as a part of NHD’s requirement under Nevada Revised Statute 319.143 to create and maintain a statewide low-income housing database. The site is overseen by an advisory committee comprised of representatives from local jurisdictions, property management groups and social services agencies.

“NVHousingSearch.org is a tremendous housing resource which is especially needed in these times of diminished affordability and availability,” Aichroth said. “We’ve seen search activity and listings increase substantially and the new look that is being rolled out will help us continue to serve Nevadans many more years into the future. We’d like to thank all who serve on the NVHousingSearch.org advisory board as well as the property management teams who’ve helped to build the success of the locator over these past five years.”

The housing division provides affordable housing opportunities and improve the quality of life for Nevada residents. Nevada Housing Division, a division of the State of Nevada Department of Business and Industry, was created by the Nevada State Legislature in 1975. It aims to connect Nevadans with homes by providing financing to developers to build affordable apartment homes, by providing innovative mortgage solutions, and by making more homes energy efficient, thereby lowering utility expenses.

More than 45,000 units of Nevada rental housing are represented in the listings. Over the past five years, the site has hosted more than 288,000 searches for Nevada rental housing. The website now averages over 200 searches per day.

Additionally, users who do not have access to the internet can receive service through a toll-free call center which has English and Spanish speaking representatives available. Prospective tenants and property managers that need assistance can call 1-877-428-8844 Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. PST.

Other special features include accessibility of the website to screen readers, call center access to a translator bank to help people from different language groups, and the ability to list nearly three dozen types of accessibility features.

Nevada Housing Coalition is serving as a co-sponsor of the relaunch party. Attendance is free, but registration is required. Lunch will be provided. To register, visit https://nvhousingsearchrelaunch.eventbrite.com.
