The next Carson City Board of Supervisor’s meeting will take place Thursday, Jan. 21 beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Robert ‘Bob’ Crowell Board Room in the Carson City Community Center, located at 851 E. William Street.

Up for discussion includes improvements to the Carson City Rifle and Pistol Range, Grants for emergency housing, the proposed Little Lane Village subdivision and more.

The Nevada State Treasurer’s Office and Clark County announced Monday that new applications for the CARES Housing Assistance Program have been paused in Clark County.

CARSON CITY — In the first two weeks of Nevada’s residential rental assistance program, 8,404 applications have been received statewide.

CARSON CITY — After the first week of the State of Nevada’s rental assistance program, significant funds remain available for renters who have been financially impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Since the launch of the program last Monday, a total of 3,085 statewide applications had been submitted by tenants seeking assistance.

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Housing Division’s Home Is Possible programs have helped 21,970 homebuyers realize the dream of homeownership in Nevada since the program launched in September 2014 through calendar year 2019. This number includes 1,497 veterans and active military personnel served by the HIP for Heroes program and 796 Nevada teachers through the HIP for Teachers program.

The Red Hat Society delivered warm bedding and clothing to each of the residents at Richards Crossing in Carson City last week. A local chapter of the Red Hat Society named the “Classy Sassy Bear Ladies” organized a Christmas gift giveaway for the residents. The giveaway, for which planning started over the summer, collected homemade and donated blankets, scarves and socks.

The Nevada Housing Division will celebrate the fifth year of its rental housing locator at a relaunch party to introduce a new look and easier navigation of the NVHousingSearch.org website. The event will be held Thursday, Sept. 26 at the NHD office located at 1830 College Parkway, Suite 200 in Carson City beginning at 11 a.m.

Residents of Carson City’s Richards Crossing, a housing, on-the-job training and resource facility for veterans, homeless and extremely low-income individuals, were delighted and surprised by the generous holiday gifts given to them by a number of organizations.

The State of Nevada Housing Division has raised the household income limit for its Home Is Possible programs, making even more Nevadans eligible for down payment assistance. Since the programs started in 2014, the income limit has been $95,500. In keeping with Nevada’s rising incomes, the limit has been raised three percent to $98,500.

Nevada Rural Housing Authority along with several community partners broke ground Wednesday on the Richards Crossing housing facility in Carson City to benefit homeless veterans. The complex is at Jeanell Drive near the corner of North Carson Street and Winnie Lane.

Members of the Carson City Veterans Community Council (CCVCC) met Wednesday afternoon to discuss changes within existing member organizations, as well as to welcome new members onto the council.

Carson City Mayor Bob Crowell and City Manager Nick Marano, both veterans, attended Wednesday's meeting and highlighted changes to the city's new, improved web site scheduled to go public by the end of May.

The entrance of companies like Tesla and Switch into Nevada means great things for the local economy. What they also mean are raising housing prices, as more and more people move into the Silver State, creating a housing shortage. This is good news for existing homeowners, but concerning for first-time homebuyers.

According to the Reno Gazette-Journal, “In January 2012, the median price for a home in northern Nevada was around $135,000. More than two and a half years later, home values have jumped by about 85 percent.”

CARSON CITY – Several lawmakers raised questions today about a proposal put forth by Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto to spend $33 million over three years on outreach, counseling and legal assistance to homeowners who are facing foreclosure.

The Nevada Housing Division today announced a new low mortgage rate for Nevada's first-time homebuyers. The Division is offering a dramatically low mortgage 3.50% interest rate for a 30-year fixed rate loan to qualified buyers.

CARSON CITY – The question of how well the Gibbons administration has done in quickly and efficiently deploying Nevada’s share of stimulus dollars is difficult to quantify.

CARSON CITY – Nevada officials are racing the clock to get their full share of federal foreclosure relief dollars.
Some states and local governments elsewhere around the country are at risk of losing millions in foreclosure relief funds. But officials with the state of Nevada and local government entities who are managing the programs say they are on track to obligate their full allotments by September deadlines.
Even so, several Nevada officials said the funds are only a drop in the bucket to address Nevada’s foreclosure crisis.

A ground-breaking celebration was held this morning to mark the beginning of one of the truly bright spots in Carson City's otherwise ailing construction economy.
Building will begin June 14 on a $3.6 million, 42-unit senior apartment complex in Carson City, designed to help close the gap in a shortage of affordable retirement housing here.

Two Nevada-based programs have been recognized by the federal government for having led the nation in efficiently using at least $18 million in federal stimulus money for energy projects, the Governor's Office has reported.
The Nevada State Office of Energy and the Nevada Housing Division have received letters from the U.S. Department of Energy commending their efforts at leading the nation by quickly and efficiently infusing federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds within Nevada communities.
