— Daily through September, Muscle Powered is holding a membership drive to recruit new members. All new and renewing members in the month of September will be entered in a drawing to win a Gregory Hiking Day Pack.
Muscle Powered works to make Carson City healthier for all citizens and safer and more accessible for bicycling and walking through education and advocacy, the promotion of bicycle and pedestrian friendly infrastructure, and developing and maintaining recreational trails throughout the city. Muscle Powered is also responsible for organized weekly walks, hikes and bike rides, on and off road, throughout Carson City. Go here to learn more and sign up.
— The Nevada State Museum in Carson City is recruiting volunteers with a love of history and learning to participate in its “New Tour Guide Training” program. 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., on Sept. 17-18, and is open to both new and returning volunteers. The training program will introduce new volunteers to the museum, while allowing existing volunteers to sharpen their knowledge of the museum.
The program includes presentations by all of the museum’s curators and will also include training in new interpretive techniques that will mainly focus on the Historic Mint Building, which will be 150 years old in 2020. The training is free. Space is limited, so prospective volunteers should contact the Nevada State Museum Education Department at nsmeducatio@nevadaculture.org or (775) 687-4810 ext 237. New volunteers will have to complete a new volunteer application. Nevada State Museum, 600 N. Carson Street, Carson City.
— Sierra Club chair to speak on energy questions at Carson City Democrat luncheon. Anne Macquarie, Chair of the Toiyabe Chapter of the Sierra Club, will be the featured speaker at Monday's Democratic Carson City Democrats luncheon. This event is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. on Monday, Sep. 17 at Carson City's Round Table Pizza, on Retail Drive just off College Parkway. An all-you-can-eat buffet lunch is available. All are welcome.
— Monday Swing Dancing & Lessons Hosted by Carson Lanes Dancing, 5:30 to 10 p.m. at the 11th Frame Lounge, 4600 Snyder Ave, Carson City. Join us every Monday for Swing Dance Night. Enjoy dancing to all your favorite tunes or just come to relax, wine and dine with us.
— Student Art Exhibition: The Wind Calls, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Capital City Arts Initiative (CCAI) announces it’s exhibition, The Wind Calls featuring nine University of Nevada, Reno, students’ work. The free exhibition is available to the public through October 9, 2018, Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – noon and 1:00 – 4:00 pm. It is held at the BRIC, 108 E Proctor St., Carson City.
— The Wind Calls includes work by Mahedi Anjuman, Nicki Bracco, Mark Combs, Teal Francis, Hannah Huntley, Gwaylon Leaf, Frances Melhop, Ally Messer, and Carla Miller. The artists used a wide variety of art media including mixed media, ceramics, sculpture, painting, printmaking, and photography to make their art and comments on contemporary life and society.
— The Capital City Arts Initiative, also known as CCAI, presents its exhibition, "Jenny Raven: The Creative Growth Years 1979 - 1984" with artwork by artist Jenny Raven in the city’s Community Center Sierra Room, 851 E William Street, Carson City. The exhibition is available to the public through October 18, 2018. The Sierra Room is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
— Visual Oasis: Works from Creative Growth, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Capital City Arts Initiative presents “Visual Oasis: Works from Creative Growth" at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery in Carson City. The exhibition, with art by 17 artists, will be in the gallery Monday through Friday until Sept. 27, 2018. The Courthouse is located at 885 E Musser Street, Carson City. The gallery is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
— Monday Night Football at Living the Good Life Bistro-Lounge. Two Large HD TVs and stadium Surround Sound, food and drink specials. Opens at 4 p.m., 1480 N Carson St.
