Carson City's Jazz and Beyond Festival continues at 11 a.m. today with live stream of Niall McGuinness, New World Jazz Project

Mile High Jazz Band Association continues the 2020 Jazz & Beyond Festival’s series of live-streamed, streamed, and virtual events through September. The next event, on Sunday, September 13, features Niall McGuinness & the New World Jazz Project playing soul, Latin, and world jazz from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The five-piece band, including reeds, keyboard, bass, drums, and percussion, will be live-streamed from Empire Ranch Golf by A to Zen Media.

Although reservations for the in-person jazz brunch are sold out, everyone can enjoy the live band in real time for free. To watch, go to facebook.com/jazzcarsoncity at 11:00 a.m. Sunday. Future live-streamed events will also initiate from this Facebook page. For notifications, “like” the page and select "notifications on" from the pull-down menu labeled “following.”

— Tuesday, Sept. 15, 7:00 p.m. - Tom Stryker’s Impromptu, jazz - Tom Stryker, harmonica; Jimmy Vermilion, keyboard and keyboard bass; and Marcy Benner, vocalist; live-streamed from A to Zen Media.

— Sunday, Sept. 20, 4:00 p.m. - Sagebrush Rebels, country-western - vocals, keyboard, bass, guitar, fiddle, pedal steel, and drums, live-streamed from Carson City.

— Thursday, Sept. 24, Frances Humphrey Lecture Series: “Casino Sidemen: Reno Showroom Musicians of the 1950s-1990s” by Patricia Crane. This lecture will be presented via Zoom. Register at www.carsonnvmuseum.org/events.

— Sunday, Sept. 27, 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. - Jazz Brunch at Empire Ranch Golf with Cherie and Take This! Vocals, keyboard, sax/flute, guitar, and drums. Limited seating - reservations required. Call 775-883-4154. Event will also be live-streamed.

The Carson City Library is preparing for a refresh of the library space and will be closed for up to 8 weeks beginning Dec. 10, 2017. This will include internal painting and refinishing the floors with concrete.

The demolition of the Kinkead building at 505 East King Street in Carson City continues. The demolition contract was awarded to local contractor Advance Installations, Inc. With valley gusts expected to top 70 mph today, the National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Warning and Red Flag Warning for the Sierra Front including Reno, Carson City, Carson Valley and Lyon County.

Highway 395 remains closed Tuesday at the Nevada-California state line as firefighters continue to battle the Chris Fire that began Monday west of U.S. Route 395, about five miles north of Sonora Junction near the Chris Flat Campground.

Friends to All is dedicated to bringing joy, cheer and friendship to senior citizens in the Carson City community during the holiday season. Since 1999 this group has been working to meet the needs of those with limited financial resources who are home bound or in care centers with little or no family nearby.

UPDATE: Bruce's Legacy, the underwater search and recovery team from Wisconsin, was at Fallen Leaf Lake recently, searching the water for a missing person. What they found was more than expected when bodies of both a man and woman were recovered.

A wild fire is actively burning Monday in Mono County on the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest’s Bridgeport Ranger District west of US Highway 395 about five miles north of Sonora Junction, near Chris Flat Campground.

I went to a photo shoot yesterday and, when I arrived, my mood was rotten. I felt disconnected. I felt stiff. I started wondering what was up with all the other people around me. Then I recognized the problem. I wasn’t managing my energy or mood. I wasn’t feeling. I was letting the feeling take me.
