AT&T has granted Western Nevada College $14,000 to help fund Jump Start College, an innovative, dual-enrollment program developed by Western Nevada College to encourage postsecondary education among high school students. The grant was awarded through AT&T Aspire.
AT&T supports innovation in education to promote student success in school and beyond through their signature philanthropic initiative, AT&T Aspire. By leveraging technology, relationships and social innovation, the goal is to help students turn dreams to reality.
Stephanie Tyler, president of AT&T Nevada presented the check to Western Nevada College at their fundraiser, Reach for the Stars at the WNC Observatory on Saturday, August 20th. “Empowering students to reach their highest potential is exactly what AT&T Aspire aims to achieve. Our hope is that by partnering with Western Nevada College in this shared vision, we can further enrich the lives of students today and well into the future.” Said Ms. Tyler.
Jump Start College is a partnership between Western Nevada College and local high schools, offering high-achieving juniors and seniors the opportunity to take college-level classes earning college credits and potentially their associate degree prior to high school graduation. Participating high schools include Carson, Dayton, Churchill County, Douglas, Fernley, Pioneer, Pyramid Lake, Silver Stage, Smith Valley, Virginia City, and Yerington along with Oasis Academy and the Nevada Homeschool Network.
Jump Start College was developed to increase college success rates at WNC, and to prepare students to better meet the demands of attending a postsecondary institution with the intention of graduating.
“As a partner of the Jump Start College program at WNC, AT&T has shown a real commitment to education in our region,” said Niki Gladys, Executive Director of WNC Foundation. “We are grateful to them for recognizing the tremendous value Jump Start College offers students.”
