National Night Out showcases fun, education for families
The safest place to be in Northern Nevada Tuesday night was at Mills Park in Carson City.
Dozens of public safety personnel were on hand to present thousands of visitors and hundreds of area families with a fun, entertaining, safe and educational experience at the annual National Night Out event hosted by the Carson City Sheriff's Office.
The free public event, in its 14th year, is held every year as a way to promote safer, stronger communities through fun, interactive education about local resources available to help.
Tuesday's National Night Out features dozens of games at booths manned by personnel representing local and regional law enforcement agencies, other first-responders and public safety professionals, military personnel, as well as representatives of youth and community organizations.
National Night Out Carson City is meant to raise awareness of crime and help bridges gaps between residents and public safety agencies by sharing information. The event also serves as an opportunity for networking between community members and area organizations.
Agencies and nonprofits present at the annual National Night Out Carson City include the Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada, the Bureau of Land Management, the Nevada Department of Public Safety and Nevada Highway Patrol, the Salvation Army and the American Red Cross, the Nevada Division of Child and Family Services, the Nevada Army and Air National Guards, the Carson City Fire Department and multiple divisions of event host Carson City Sheriff's Office.
A total of more than 100 agencies and organizations participated, said organizer DARE officer Lisa Davis.
Some of the featured activities for children and families included national finger print kits, home safety checklists, law enforcement demonstrations, and helicopter displays.
