Among the topics to be discussed will be school security, the Sheriff Department's deescalation policy, and what may be unintended consequences of current juvenile detention practices. He will also be prepared to field questions on any issues of concern to the community.

The B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge in Carson City recognizes annually people who have excelled in volunteering their time to help make their respective communities a better place for all. This year the Carson City Elks Lodge has proudly recognized Carol Park as citizen of the year.

It’s been months of challenging circumstances for our community, businesses, families and schools, but I saw us beginning to emerge from the darkness. Then, without warning, the horrific death of George Floyd reignited the unresolved wounds of racism, police use of force, and unequal treatment of minorities in this country. The frustrated public demanded answers, change, and resolution, not later but now.

For more than 15 years, Lisa Davis served as the DARE officer for Carson City. Her last day is Thursday as she and her husband Bob will be relocating to Oregon. She leaves Carson City with many accomplishments in providing children guidance and away from falling into the trap of alcohol and drugs.

For this week's installment of Carson Now's Five Questions, Carson City's Sheriff Ken Furlong sat down to discuss how being Sheriff has shaped his life, issues facing Carson City currently, mental health training for law enforcement and more.

The Carson City National Night Out event held in August has been awarded third in the nation among communities with a population of 50,000 to 100,000. Significantly, Carson City was the only Nevada jurisdiction to receive an award this year.

On October 2, Comma Coffee located at 312 S Carson St will host Carson City’s “Coffee with a Cop” social from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. “Coffee with a Cop” is a growing initiative across America with over 650 law enforcement agencies in 47 states participating.

Carson City is a very special place and, as the city continues to grow and prosper, many are looking to relocate here for a myriad of reasons.

Through the years, Carson City has changed. There have been good times and there have been times that, as Thomas Paine wrote, “have tried men’s souls.” We’ve lost some historic and iconic structures but have bounced back in the good times. The biggest recent changes occurred in 2016 with the reimagining of the downtown core that continues today.

Hundreds of families packed the green belt at Mills Park Tuesday night to celebrate Carson City’s commitment to public safety during the 17th annual National Night Out.

The community event in the heart of Carson City was filled with music, games, activities, food and informational booths for kids and adults.

Heading into Tuesday Aug. 6, which means the safest family celebration of the year at the 17th annual Carson City National Night Out. This is an event like no other, where agencies who work in areas of public health and safety gather at Mills Park to meet with Carson City residents. This event features 3 hours of information booths, games, demonstrations, food and fun. Also happening Tuesday is a free robotics mini-camp for kids in nearby Silver City, Reciprocity Inc. will host a fundraiser at Rustically Divine, there's the Culinary Traveler’s Club's Polynesian Paradise featured at Bleu Café; the Carson City Classic Cinema Club will feature a Sci-Fi favorite at the BAC, plus fitness outings and more. National Night Out, one of Carson City’s largest summer celebrations, is returning Tuesday, Aug. 6 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Mills Park for its 17th year. And by all indications, it will be the biggest yet.

National Night Out is a way for residents to meet those who serve and protect our community as well as agencies that provide services, especially in areas of public health and safety. Agencies such as Search and Rescue, Health and Human Services, Care Flight, Advocates to End Domestic Violence, Carson City Sheriff’s Office, Carson City Fire Department, Nevada Highway Patrol, Department of Wildlife, agency advocates and dozens more.

Shepherd of the Sierra Lutheran Church in Carson City donated proceeds raised from community rummage sale to Carson City Search and Rescue to support the replacement of an aging search and rescue vehicle. A generous donation in the amount of $3,147.25 was presented on July 24, which will join funds already raised for the vehicle purchase.

The 17th annual National Night Out, hosted by the National Association of Town Watch and the Carson City Sheriff's Office, will be held Tuesday, August 6, 2019 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Mills Park, Carson City, Nevada.

The following is from the Sheriff's Office: Due to anticipated cold, wet, windy weather conditions Carson City Sheriff’s Office regrets to inform the community of the cancellation of the Cops and Kids Safe Streets Party which was scheduled for Saturday, May 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. According to the National Weather Service a slight chance of showers and potential for wind is predicted. Unfavorable weather conditions may cause significant disruption in the planned outdoor activities. The event cannot be relocated indoors as accommodations are limited. Staff of the Carson City Sheriff’s Office wishes to thank those interested in attending and appreciates the community’s support.

The 16th annual Cops and Kids Safe Streets Party, hosted by the Carson City Sheriff's Office, will be held Saturday, May 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Sheriff’s Office administration building, 911 East Musser Street.

Public safety, awareness and community are at the center of this popular annual spring event where the theme is “Cops and Kids: Where the Community and Law Enforcement Come Together.”

Despite smoke-filled skies from regional wildfires, the 2018 Carson City National Night Out held Tuesday night at Mills Park generated a crowd of several thousand and likely matched last year's record crowd, organizers said.

The 16th annual National Night Out, or as some like to call it, “Crime’s Going Away Party,” was held Tuesday evening in Mills Park and an excellent time was had by law enforcement and the public alike, demonstrating their commitment to the partnership between the community and law enforcement agencies.

TUESDAY, August 7: Things to do in Carson City

The Carson City Sheriff's Office will host its enormously popular community crime prevention gathering Tuesday with the return of National Night Out, a public safety information and educational family event at Mills Park that traditionally draws thousands.

Volunteers with the Carson City Sheriff's Office DARE program were busy Saturday assembling between 400 and 500 prize bags to be handed out to children at next weekend's annual Cops and Kids Safe Streets party.

Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong announced his bid for re-election Friday. Furlong has served as the 27th Carson City Sheriff since 2003.

The Carson City Sheriff's Office will host its first "Coffee with a Cop" event this Wednesday, Oct. 4, at Dunkin' Donuts on East William Street.
