California man identified in suspected Lake Tahoe drowning

UPDATE: The Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the man whose body was found in Lake Tahoe by the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office HASTY Team near Chimney Beach on June 25. Xavier Olivas, 69, of Yucca Valley, Calif., was pronounced dead at the scene. The cause and manner of death is pending further investigation. No foul play is suspected.

Crews are searching for a 69-year-old California man who jumped into Lake Tahoe near Chimney Beach Friday afternoon.

Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue, HASTY, WCSAR, Marine 9, WCSO Deputy Sheriffs, Carson City Sheriff deputies, North Lake Tahoe Fire, and members of the Coast Guard are combing Chimney Beach and Lake Tahoe waters for the missing man.

Shortly before 1:00 p.m. on June 25, Xavier Olivas reportedly jumped off a boat in the water with intentions to swim to shore. He hasn’t been seen since. Olivas, from Yucca Valley in California, was last seen wearing red shorts and a silver chain. He stands 5 ‘ 9” and weighs 150 pounds.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Xavier Olivas is asked to call the Washoe County non-emergency dispatch line at (775) 785-WCSO.

Military funeral for 13 veterans

There will be a public military funeral for 13 unclaimed Nevada veterans on Friday, Dec. 8, 2017, 2 p.m. at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Fernley.

Consort Canzona, a select group of instrumentalists and singers specializing in early music, will present “An Early Music Christmas” concert for the holiday season on Friday, Dec. 1, at 7 p.m., at Shepherd of the Sierra Lutheran Church, 3680 Highway 395 (just south of Best Buy) in Carson City. Admission is free, donations welcome.
