Carson City man jailed after witnesses said he threw child to the ground
A 35-year-old Carson City man was arrested Tuesday in the area of Valley and Anderson streets for suspicion of gross misdemeanor child neglect and endangerment, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
According to the arrest report, witnesses told deputies they saw the man yelling at a female child and dragging her around with his right hand while walking. The witnesses further stated the man threw the child to the ground. After the child got up, she attempted to get away from him, the report states.
Deputies searched the area and found the suspect and a woman with 1 boy and two girls that matched the description. Deputies met with the mother and father of the children. The father stated his 9-year-old daughter was getting tired from walking from Motel 6 on South Carson Street to FISH located on East Long Street.
The father told deputies the girl began to cause a scene and yelled at him and her mother, asking they get a ride with a stranger so she didn’t have to walk anymore, the arrest report states.
The man said he grabbed the girl’s right arm and started to pull her by the arm while walking in the direction toward FISH. While walking he said she tripped over a sign on the ground while he was holding her hand.
The suspect stated both he and his daughter fell to the ground. After that, he said they got back up where he told the deputy he spanked the girl due to her continually acting out. He said there were bystanders from across the street who told him he’s not allowed to spank his child. He said he yelled back at them in the heat of the moment and walked away.
The mother told deputies her daughter was tired from walking and began acting out, saying her 9-year-old daughter has the mouth of a sailor and will act out at times, the arrest report states.
The mother told deputies she leaves it to the children’s father to discipline the kids. She stated both he and their child fell and that after they fell, he spanked the child.
A deputy then spoke with two witnesses who said they observed the family walking along near a casino and that the oldest child was screaming. They said the man pulled the girl up by the arm and slammed her into the ground. The witnesses said when the girl got up she was crying, yelling and attempting to get away. The witnesses said the man began to call his daughter names. The witnesses said it was a deliberate act and that the child did not fall over.
Due to witnesses stating they saw the girl being thrown to the ground, the man was arrested at 5:14 p.m. for suspicion of gross misdemeanor child endangerment and neglect. Bail: $2,500.
