Bighorns Baseball splits DH with the S.L. Ports
CARSON CITY- The Nevada Bighorns baseball has seen a split season and Saturday afternoon was no different. The visiting S.L. Ports (from San Leandro, CA) were able to salvage a split with the Bighorns on the Saturday double-header at Governor's Field. Game 1 belonged to the Bighorns winning 7-2. Three home runs sailed over the fence for Nevada, hit by: Corey Metoyer, Cam Young, and Chad Schryer.
The Bighorns had solid pitching from their starter Ryan Shepherd going the distance, and some great defensive play behind him highlighted by Sean Costella. Costella picked a clean game at shortstop making some plays for his highlight reel. Costella won this year's NAIA Baseball National Championship with Concordia University, Irvine.
The Bighorns finished the game strong with a three run sixth inning to put it away.
Game 2 was a close game that the S.L. Ports out-dueled the Bighorns to win it 3-1.
The offense went cold for Nevada. Scoring the only run of the game in the second inning on a Chad Schryer RBI double that scored Matt Page. The Bighorns did have opportunities leaving 9 on base throughout the game.
