Carson City prepares to power it up at Legends of the West Bike and Car Fest

High octane throttle therapy, chrome and the roar of motorcycles, hot rods, trucks and old car classics will highlight Carson City downtown during Legends of the West Bike and Car Fest, June 21-22.

This jubilee celebrates all things that make the open road a call to the wild side, showcasing incredible hot rods, classic cars, and plenty of motorcycles. Activities feature live entertainment, a Show and Shine, raffles, expanded cruise parade, breakfast, awards, and plenty of dining, hydration and refreshment opportunities.

Legends of the West Bike and Car Fest is an open competition for motorcycles and custom cars and trucks.

Sponsored by the Carson City Downtown Business Association, the event promises all the power to the deep-throated vroom of motorcycle engines from 250cc to over 900cc and classic auto engines from 4 cylinder to giant V10s in a festive family-friendly atmosphere.

— Enter your bike in these categories: Vintage, Classic, Custom, and Open.

— Enter your car in these categories: Vintage, Pre ’65, Muscle Car, Street Rod, Low Rider, Rat Rod, New Gen, Open, Truck, Mini Truck (Mid-size), Import, and VW.

— Car and bike entries are $25 per vehicle. Friday night cruise $5 per registered vehicle.

— Kids 5 to 15 can enter a pedal car, bicycle, or wagon at no charge – just bring a can of food for FISH.

The first 100 entries will receive a “goodie bag” chock full of great gifts, including a t-shirt, dash plaque or ride pin, free pancake breakfast ticket, and discount coupons.

Main Street will be closed from Robinson to the Capitol along with the side streets for one block east and west, so that all the bikes and cars can be viewed by the public. Friday closure hours: Carson St from Robinson to Musser St, and Spear St from 11 AM to 9 PM. Saturday closure hours: Carson St from Robinson to Fifth St, and side streets from Spear to Proctor will be closed to traffic from 6 AM to 6 PM.

The event includes: Pancake Breakfast at the Elks Lodge, Show & Shine with judging from 1 – 3 PM, Live Music by Whiskey Train and Don & Nadine, Gunfights by Badges, Bandits & Bloomers, Food and Drink, Friday night downtown loop cruise starting at 6 PM, and Saturday night cruise to the Carson Station after the Show & Shine. Don’t forget to buy a souvenir t-shirt or a raffle ticket to benefit FISH and Disabled American Vets Chapters 1 and 7.

Saturday evening starting at 7:30 PM, join us at Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar patio out back for an Awards Party. Trophies will be given in each category and for Best of Show. These one-of-a-kind, custom designed, unique trophies will be the best thing on your mantle, bar none!

The CCSO 10th Annual Extreme Motor Officer Training Challenge will take place right here on our own downtown streets. See these highly trained men and women compete for glory in slow motion.

Teams are already signing up from Salt Lake City, Las Vegas, BC Canada, Pasadena, the Bay Area, Ft. Lauderdale Florida, Oregon, Washington state, Redding, Reno, Washoe County, Sacramento, the Nevada Highway Patrol, San Jose, Fremont, Tracy, Scotts Valley and Manteca. On Friday, the Challenge events will be: Noon-3 PM Practice, 3-4 PM: Timed Practice Runs, and 4-6 PM: Two-Man Relay Event. On Saturday: 8-8:30 AM Opening Ceremony, 9 AM-Noon Competition, Noon-1 PM Civilian Events, and 1-5 PM Competition.

A suspect who allegedly made violent threats against an elementary school in Sonoma County, Calif. was arrested at Lake Tahoe on Monday evening. Earlier in the day, detectives with the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office said the suspect, Kevin Harrington, 47, of Santa Rosa, was likely in the South Lake Tahoe area.

Carson City resident Brett Fisher took these photos of the rare celestial visitor Comet A3, also known as C/2023 A3 Tsuchinshan-ATLAS, that arrived this week over the skies across Nevada and throughout the world.

A gas leak was repaired Thursday and there is not an active leak, according to a Southwest Gas spokesman. It is unknown at this time when the portion of backcountry trail will reopen. We will update when it does.

A portion of the Spooner Lake State Park backcountry is closed until further notice due to an ongoing gas leak, according to Nevada State Parks in a social media post Monday.

It will begin to feel more like fall later this week around Carson City and surrounding counties with a storm system arriving Wednesday that is expected to bring cooler temperatures and shower chances.

Temperatures are expected to drop below freezing Thursday night into Friday morning, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a freeze watch.
