Photos: Rare comet visible over Northern Nevada sky through the end of October
Carson City resident Brett Fisher took these photos of the rare celestial visitor Comet A3, also known as C/2023 A3 Tsuchinshan-ATLAS, that arrived this week over the skies across Nevada and throughout the world.
Hailing from the Oort cloud, the icy comet was discovered in January 2023. It is visible on the western horizon after sunset and will continue through the end of the month, each night getting dimmer. It is nearly 2 miles in diameter and its tail of dust and gasses extends for tens of millions of miles, according to NASA.
It will roll around again in another 80,000 years, NASA says.
