Carson City deputy DA Orrin Johnson named among 2016 legal elite by business magazine
Carson City District Attorney Jason Woodbury announced Tuesday that Deputy District Attorney Orrin Johnson has been named to Nevada Business Magazine’s 2016 Legal Elite.
Johnson, 39, has been a prosecutor in Carson City since October, 2015. A veteran of the United States Navy, Johnson was a Senior Deputy District Attorney in Lyon County before joining Woodbury’s office. Previously, Johnson served as a Deputy Public Defender in Washoe County.
In its ninth year, Legal Elite highlights Nevada’s top attorneys as chosen by their peers. Polling for the 2016 list began in February of this year and over 6,000 nominations were collected from licensed attorneys throughout the state, according to Nevada Business Magazine. Those nominees were vetted and the poll’s results highlight the top vote receivers in Northern Nevada, Southern Nevada, the Best Up and Coming attorneys and the top Government attorneys.
“The role of a criminal prosecutor, first and foremost, is to seek justice, not just to ‘win’ cases,” said Johnson. “I love the work I do, but cannot deny the sometimes intimidating nature of that calling. I am humbled that my peers feel we live up to that obligation here in Carson City to the best of our abilities. The team I get to work with is dedicated to bringing justice to victims of crime, those accused of crime, and our communities as a whole, and I am incredibly grateful to work with such professionals.”
Woodbury commented that Johnson’s recognition as one of Nevada’s best attorneys is well-deserved. “We hit Orrin with a full caseload of highly sensitive, highly complex cases as soon as he walked through our door, because we knew he could handle it. His trial instincts are as good as I’ve seen,” Woodbury said. “More importantly, Orrin is honest and fair.”
Chosen annually, Nevada’s Legal Elite is comprised of the top attorneys in Nevada, as determined by peer rankings and independent examination by Nevada Business Magazine. This is the sixth time Johnson has been recognized as one of Nevada’s top government attorneys since 2009.
